Overview
Cars like the 2016 Toyota Highlander Hybrid might not be able to give you the direct benefits one might expect from its hybrid powertrain. However, its use must not be overlooked. The Highlander Hybrid uses its 3.5L V6 engine, three motor hybrid system, and a Nickel Metal Hydride Traction battery to produce 280 horsepower. This gives the Highlander Hybrid a 0-60 of 7.3 seconds. The hybrid engine here is to support the gasoline engine to boost performance and offer slightly better fuel economy than what a single gasoline engine would be capable of. That said, the Highlander Hybrid achieves a combined fuel economy of 28 MPG. As part of the midsize SUV, the Highlander Hybrid competes with the Lexus RX 450h Hybrid, the Nissan Murano Hybrid, and the Audi Q5 Hybrid which comes from the compact SUV segment. On a side note, all these rivals have a seating capacity of 5 as opposed to a standard seating of 7 given on the Highlander Hybrid. It offers 2 trims, starting off at an MSRP of $47,870.
