This is the least reliable car. My car only made it to 140,000 miles and the transmission blew for no reason. Also the suspension broke when pulling out of a Safeway parking lot last year and I never even hit anything! Everything in this car is cheap and plastic and breaks super easily. The parts are also very poor quality. Read More

I sincerely believe Mazda knows about the massive transmission problems and does not address it in their warranty. Annual maintenance will rack up over $1,000/yr and that's only for a set of tires. In a dying midsize sedan segment, cars like the 2014 Mazda 6 are still marching on, bringing the best for owners. This car is a fan favorite because it has provided luxury while also offering a lot of excellent powertrains and sporty handling. It also has excellent interiors and exteriors in terms of style and quality. Reliability can be called a decently strong suit of this car because it has 118 complaints but Mazda has followed it up with 4 recalls that address most of the pressing problems. Starting at an MSRP of $21,505, it is incredible value for money as well. Competing against names like the Honda Accord, the Toyota Camry, and the Nissan Altima, competition is very intense and the car has to prove its credentials in order to stay relevant.

2014 Mazda 6 User Complaints and Problems

Mechanical problems:

  1. There have been multiple Mazda 6 Skyactiv engine problems about the engine stalling and having to be restarted multiple times to resume correct operation. The car can also lose power while being driven normally. Sometimes, this results in engine seizures. A few owners have reported sudden unintended acceleration as one of the 2014 Mazda 6 common problems.
  2. Some cars have reported a fuel smell due to a leak.
  3. The parking brake fails to work completely in some cars.
  4. The brake calipers are another problem area and due to rusting, they can produce faults. However, the problem is that the manufacturer does not have the parts available when owners approach them.
  5. The steering system has a tendency to fail. It can range from reducing power assistance to complete failure of the power steering. We can also lock up while turning.
  6. The front suspension system has created problems like ball joint separation as well as a loud clunking noise while being driven.

Electrical system problems:

  1. One of the most common problems in these cars is that the transmission fails to recognize that the car is shifted into Park, and drains the battery. However, the manufacturer has issued a recall to fix the problem.

Interior problems:

  1. Some cars have had problems with the seat adjustment being stuck. The headrests are also too far forward to the liking of some drivers.
  2. There have been some complaints regarding the plastic quality of the dashboard.

Exterior problems:

  1. There have been complaints regarding the sealing of the lights used in the car. Both the headlights and taillights are prone to water seepage.
  2. Some owners have reported that the hood can vibrate while driving.
  3. Some owners have reported windshield cracking problems.

Safety problems:

  1. There have been a few complaints about the airbags not deploying during crashes. This fails to protect the occupants.
  2. A few owners state that the forward collision avoidance on the car does not work well. The car brakes a lot in advance and without checking other vehicles following it.
  3. The cruise control system can intermittently stop working properly.
  4. The tires fitted from the factory are low-quality and can blow out and suffer other failures.

Should you buy the 2014 Mazda 6?

The 2014 Mazda 6 is one of the best cars from the brand because it is not only affordable, but also very practical, and well-equipped. It is an extremely attractive option because it embodies certain Japanese philosophies for everyday life. Its design is also one of the best we have in modern times and the interiors are very upscale. Regarding reliability, we can say that the car definitely performs as well as the rest of its category. Despite the common 2014 Mazda 6 transmission problems, windshield cracking issues, as well as some engine trouble, the manufacturer has responded quite well to these problems and found solutions. We would say it is very much recommended pick in the segment, especially since the 2014 model comes with a lot of new updates.
