I had a 2009 Infiniti G37, and loved it and it was actually cheap to own. Unfortunately, I ride bikes, I have a house that needs repairs, and hauling gack from the lake to the compost facility. So... replacement time. Besides, it had over 200k on it. In late 2020 I bought a 2017 RX350 with 18,000 miles. PremiumRead More

Lexus is a truly innovative manufacturer that tries to bring a lot of new cars with excellent powertrains. The 2017 Lexus RX 350 plans to take the category by storm by also introducing great reliability in the segment. However, it has reported a total of 3 recalls as well as 49 complaints this year. Starting at an MSRP of $44,025, it is priced aggressively in the segment with competitors like the Cadillac XT5, the BMW X3, and the Audi Q5 are priced around the same.

"HOWSTUFFINMYCARWORKS" brings you the necessary content on the automotive industry. Even "HOWSTUFFINMYCARWORKS" has noticed defective vacuum pump causing a loss of braking assist. To know more, click on the video below:

2017 Lexus RX350 User Complaints and Problems

Mechanical problems:

  1. There are multiple complaints about the car suddenly shutting off its engine due to stalling. Some owners are able to restart it after a few seconds but others experience persistent Lexus engine failure. This sometimes starts by showing a slight hesitation to respond to gas pedal inputs. In fact, this hesitation and throttle response is the most common problem.
  2. In one case, there was a strong odor produced inside the car that resulted in a headache. The problem was identified to be a cabin filter but the failure reoccurred even after cleaning it.
  3. There are a few brake problems reported in the car as well that need the owner to exert a lot of pressure on the pedal to produce any output. The manufacturer has acknowledged that it is a common Lexus brake problem.
  4. One of the most common Lexus RX 350 transmission problems being reported is that the car can go down while being in Park.

Electrical system problems:

  1. The instrument cluster of this car has reported several failures in which it goes completely blank. There are not many Lexus electrical problems but this one is a common issue.

Miscellaneous problems:

  1. A few owners have observed that the AC drain plug can cause insects to get in and water can leak into the cabin, this can damage the padding and the carpeting, not to mention electrical problems.

Exterior problem:

  1. Although rare, there are a few instances of the sunroof exploding without any apparent impact.

Safety problems:

  1. The most common safety problem reported about this car is that the airbags failed to deploy even in situations of the crash is quite serious and it causes injury to the occupants.
  2. The blindspot monitor also does not alert the driver in some cases. Other owners have complained that the heads-up display causes a distracting reflection.
  3. Many owners have reported that the partial brake assist and automatic emergency braking system failed to engage and caused an accident, although they were minor ones in both cases. In another instance, the brakes engaged so hard that a rear-end impact was almost unavoidable.

Should you buy the 2017 Lexus RX350?

The Lexus RX 350 is one of the finest crossover SUVs in the segment and provides a similar level of quality when compared to higher-priced European luxury rivals. Although it is a bit more expensive than its American competitors, it is more reliable and practical than them. The most common issue in this car has been identified by the brand and fixed through a recall as well, which makes it a good buy in the segment.
