For 2016, the Range Rover is offered in five trims with engine options varying from a 340 hp supercharged V6 to a 550 hp supercharged V8 engine. Prices for the 2016 Range Rover starts at $84,950 for the base trim and climbs to an atrocious $199,495, just shy of two hundred thousand grand, for the top-of-the-line SV Autobiography trim. Spending above $100,000 on a Range Rover can be hard as they do depreciate sharply. However, the HSE trim offers a higher state of tune supercharged V6 engine and is more fuel-efficient than the available V8 yet costs under $100,000. With enough power and the same off-road ability, the HSE trim makes for a good choice.

The 2016 Range Rover comes with three engine choices and two state-of-tune for its gas-powered engines. The standard one is a 3.0L supercharged V6 that generates 340 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque, while the same engine in the HSE trim puts out 380 horses. The second engine option is a 3.0L turbodiesel V6 engine available on the base and the HSE trim. Moving to the trims above HSE gets you a 5.0L supercharged V8 engine that churns 510 hp and 461 lb-ft of torque, while the same engine in the SVAutobiography trim puts out 550 hp and 502 lb-ft of torque. All three engines as standard are clubbed with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and a full-time 4WD system.

The 380 hp V6 powered Range Rover manages a 6.2 seconds 0-60 mph time and takes 14.7 seconds to cover the quarter-mile. The same Range Rover with a V8 slashes the 0-60 mph timing to just 4.7 seconds and quarter-mile timing to 13.1 seconds. As for the rivals, the GL 450 clocks the fastest 0-60 mph timing of 6.0 seconds and covers the fastest quarter-mile in 14.6 seconds. 

As per the EPA, the base trim and the HSE trim with the supercharged V6 return a similar 17 mpg in the city, 23 mpg on the highway, and 19 mpg combined. The turbodiesel takes that figure to 22/29/25 mpg in city/highway/combined, respectively, while the bigger V8 manages a subpar 14 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway. Regardless of the engine choice, a 22.5-gallon fuel tank is standard on the Range Rover.

If we compare the numbers on paper, it is no doubt the big and heavy Range Rover manages to beat all the fuel economy figures of the rivals. The closest is the Mercedes-Benz GL 450 that returns similar gas mileage in the city but 2 mpg less on the highway compared to the Range Rover. The one advantage it has over the Range Rover is in the form of the bigger 26.4-gallon fuel tank that helps it beat the Range Rover’s overall range from a tankful of gas by a margin. 

The cabin of the Land Rover Range Rover is no less than that of a luxury coach, and with the power of the money, you can get every visible spot inside the cabin of this SUV covered in leather. As standard, you only get leather-trimmed seats and a suede headliner. The seats are power-adjustable and offer heating as standard. The amount of comfort in both rows is unparalleled. The only disadvantage the Range Rover has against the competition is the passenger capacity of only five even with the extended wheelbase. 

Being a two-row SUV, the Range Rover has a cargo capacity of 32.1 cubic feet, which is enough for a luxury vehicle. The rear seats cannot be folded, so that’s all you get here. As for the rivals, they offer seating for seven to eight passengers but can’t beat the cabin space in the first two rows of the Range Rover. Among the rivals, the Mercedes-Benz GL 450 has the most generous head and legroom, while the Land Cruiser has the highest third-row shoulder room. Key interior features include:
