... states over before my vacation days ended. 1st problem I had along the way is that It has Car play Connectivity Issues. The 2nd problem happened later around 58k miles where the AC kept turning on and off as in not blowing anything at all, later around 59,100 miles AC stop completely and while taking it in to the Dealership they said I need a new engine harness. As I'm still typing this out I am still waiting on a new engine harness. Like Yeah the car is good on gas, storage andRead More

... Kia releases a recall for guess what?….the same issue I had. Took my car to the dealership for service and the recall. They tell me my car isn’t under any recalls and unfortunately there’s nothing they can do. Sorry Kia, I’m not risking me or my kids life for you to decide to recall my car. Read More

Then having the premium package it didn’t have heated seats or a heated steering wheel which is odd being it’s a premium package. Then the display in the car would randomly go black and not work for periods at a time. I have to say I was extremely excitedRead More

The 2021 Kia K5 is a sleek and stylish sedan that's sure to turn heads on the road with its sporty design and impressive performance. Although it's only been on the market for nearly a year, the K5 has already made quite an impression. It has a spacious interior and a comfortable ride quality, making it ideal for families or anyone who wants a reliable and practical car. The K5 also has good safety ratings, making it a great choice for buyers.

Sales have been strong, and reviewers have praised its quality and value. With so much positive buzz surrounding the K5, it's no wonder the K5 has already proven itself to be popular with buyers in the US. In its first year of sales, over 100,000 units were sold, giving it one of the best start-up years of any sedan in recent history. This popularity is likely due to the combination of affordability, quality, and features that the K5 offers at $28,090 MSRP. There are few cars on the market that can match the Kia K5 for value or quality. However, the 2021 Kia K5 still has its share of complaints and issues and as per the NHTSA data, the 2021 Kia K5 has 4 cases of recalls.

2021 Kia K5 User Complaints and Problems

Engine and Mechanical Problems

  • Engine - The engine cover coming off is a serious safety issue, and the cooling system allows antifreeze vapors and high pressure to escape into the engine area, which can cause random engine shut-offs.
  • Powertrain - Due to an unfortunate issue in the powertrain and the check engine light illuminated and a warning to pull over immediately. Kia investigated the problem and offered a free replacement for the transmission was offered.

Safety Problems

  • Airbags - Airbags may not properly inflate during a collision, which is another issue with safety. However, there are just three automobiles that were impacted, and a recall allowed for their free repair.

Electrical Problems

  • Warning lights - On one occasion a customer faced the issue of all of their sensors going off, even after harness change and clearing all the sensors, the problem was repeated multiple times.

Dealers will update the R-MDPS software, free of charge.

The Occupant Classification and Detection System (OCS/ODS) unit may not detect the presence of a child restraint system in the front passenger seat. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

Should you buy the 2021 Kia K5?

The Kia K5 has been on the market for less than a year, but it has already shown itself to be a reliable and affordable car. The majority of the few but diverse complaints made to the NHTSA concern the electrical system; however, this is not uncommon for new cars. Between March and November 2022, Kia issued 4 recalls for the K5. These deal with steering, lane departure problems, fuel systems, and airbags; however, they have all been resolved quickly by Kia's customer service team. Overall, the K5 is a great value for its price range and should be considered by anyone in the market for a new car.
