Overview

The Honda Odyssey is widely recognized among midsize passenger vans. Odyssey provides innovative elegance and also serves as an all-purpose room, especially for families. Additionally, it satisfies almost all of your minivan needs: a roomy and comfortable interior, strong performance, a smooth ride, and a long list of standard equipment. Honda Odyssey provides a journey worth taking together with great adaptability and exceptional fuel efficiency.

Buying Advice

There are various trim options available in the recently announced 2023 Honda Odyssey. Starting from the standard model there are a plethora of features that are highlighted in various trims. However, we will recommend the EX-L trim option which costs an additional $3,070 MSRP against the standard model. Along with that, it includes opulent features that families will like, including leather seats, additional USB connections in the back, and a power-operated rear liftgate.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

With an exception of two minor changes, the 2023 Honda Odyssey is mostly unaltered from earlier iterations. The Sport trim replaces the LX, which was formerly the basic model, while the prior entry-level LX trim has been discontinued. The external and interior styles of this trim are trim-specific, along with 19-inch wheels. The 2023 Honda Odyssey comes with five different trim levels: EX, EX-L, Sport, Touring, and Elite. The 2023 Honday Odyssey starting MSRP is priced at $37,340 which can range up to $49,470. In its segment, it always receives competition from the likes of the Chrysler Pacifica, the Chrysler Voyager, and the Kia Carnival.

Features
7.0/10

Honda Odyssey powers through the front axle so that you don't have to worry about complicated switches or buttons. The all-new Honda Odyssey comes in five different trim levels: EX, EX-L, Sport, Touring, and Elite to choose from. All of these trims come along with a powerful 3.5L V6 engine and an FWD drivetrain as standard. The standard EX trim is priced at $37,340 which can range as high to $49,470 in the Elite trim.

The addition of newly introduced Sport trim has been the biggest addition to the Honda Odyssey and as the name suggests it offers sporty styling. Honda Odyssey comes along with a list of standard specifications such as power sliding doors, full led headlights, cloth seats, 18-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, tri-zone automatic climatic control, an 8-inch display touch screen with Apple Car Play and Android Auto, and adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow.

In comparison, all the competitors are closely stacked when it comes to fuel efficiency as most of its adversaries offer 19 MPG in the city and 22 MPG combined and 28 MPG on the highway while the Kia Carnival 2022 offers a mileage of 26 MPG on the highway. The 2023 Honda Odyssey offers a range of 546 miles on the highway thanks to its fuel tank capacity of 19.5 gallons in its class. While comparing all the statistics, we can say that all these minivans offer quite similar numbers in their fuel EPA, however, the Odyssey ranks a little higher due to its range so it is considered a better fuel-efficient vehicle than its adversaries.

Interior
9.0/10

A minivan's principal function is to transport people and goods between far locations, and Odyssey excels at this task. When it comes to letting children in and out of a minivan, sliding rear doors will always be superior to regular doors. The first two rows of chairs are high enough to slip straight into. With just a little effort, the seats in the second row may recline and glide laterally for easier access to the third row. Honda's innovative second-row Magic Glide seats slide both forward and backward, enabling a variety of combinations.

Odyssey is the quietest minivan in its class, as with the active noise-cancellation feature you can ignore the background noise of the road by using the provided cabin intercom. Your speech is recorded by a microphone and sent to the speakers or headsets of the back entertainment system in the van which allows you to say things without the need of turning your head back. However, the poor visibility up front and shoulder is a drawback but the side mirrors and roof pillars on the windshield are substantial. Cloth upholstery, adjustable front seats, and fold-flat third-row seats are some of the interior standard specifications.

Kia Carnival has a boastful spacious third-row space with 145.1 cu-ft.

However, most adversaries offer a 7 seating capacity which when compared to the Odyssey is less. Chrysler Pacifica's posh Pinnacle variant has quilted leather upholstery and even includes matching lumbar cushions for the second-row captain's seats, a luxury that is seen in the ultra-luxurious Mercedes-Maybach S-final class iteration. With a roomy center console and an available dual-screen infotainment system in the Mercedes style with a digital gauge display. The Kia Carnival's dashboard and front-seat area are both more contemporary and comfortable.

Some of the standout interior features include

  • Windshield roof pillars.
  • Rearview cameras.
  • Magic slide 2nd-row seats.
  • Heated and ventilated front seats.
  • Tri-zone climate control.
  • CabinWatch and CabinTalk feature included.
  • Satellite radio.

How intuitive is the 2023 Honda Odyssey Infotainment system?

All the different 2023 Honda Odyssey trim comes along with an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment display. Additionally, the software enables menu layout customization and smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in addition to Bluetooth. However, a rear-seat entertainment system with integrated streaming applications is a standard feature on both the Touring and Elite models. Honda Odyssey provides an extra 11-speaker premium audio system and USB connections. Along with that, it offers large virtual buttons and quick reactions. The arrangement of the virtual buttons on the screen can be altered.

Some of the salient features in the infotainment system are listed below

  • A 8-inch infotainment touch screen.
  • Proximity keyless entry.
  • 11-speaker premium audio system.
  • 160-watt audio system with 7 speakers including subwoofer.
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.

Exterior
5.0/10

The 2023 Honda Odyssey offers new trim i.e. the Sport model pulls from the dark-out SUV trend by attempting to trim down the design and divert attention from the bulging rear. The 19-inch black wheels are complemented by gloss black detailing on the grille, lamp surrounds, side mirrors, and mid-pillars. The slimming black and red and white jackets are also options. Along with that, a grille that embraces the built-in LED lights is furrowed by a chrome bar from the front. Parallel body lines extend up over the body line and sliding door track and down the rockers before marrying over the rear tire. Fog lights stack up down beneath and along the side.

The 2022 Kia Carnival offers much better high ground clearance among all its competitors which provides better drive performance and makes it easier to drive on rough and uphill terrain. However, the Honda Odyssey is a belt at the bottom with 4,5 inches of ground clearance. Additionally, Kia Carnival also offers a much better wheelbase size with 121.7 inches when compared to its adversaries whereas the Honda Odyssey is at the bottom of the table with 118.1 inches. However, the 2023 Honda Odyssey offers power-sliding doors and extravagant modern styling that makes it a delight to look at.

Some of the key exterior features include

  • Power slide mirrors.
  • Power tailgate with programmable height.
  • Tailights with integrated LED light bars.
  • Roofline spoiler with integrated brake ligt.
  • Programmable remote entry.
  • Fin-type roof-mounted antenna.

Safety
8.0/10

All 2023 Honda Odyssey models come equipped as standard with Honda Sensing, which provides a comprehensive suite of driver aid technologies. Additionally, a list of safety technologies is equipped with it including adaptive cruise control down to a stop, active lane control, blind-spot monitors, automatic high lights, automated emergency braking with pedestrian recognition, and a rear seat alert that warns drivers of items and occupants left in the back seats.

Honda Odyssey's overall safety received five-star certification from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in 2023. It received a perfect score of five in the frontal and side crash tests and a score of four in the rollover test.

Some of the key safety features include

  • Forward collision warning.
  • Lane-departure warning and Lane-keep assist.
  • Rearview camera.
  • Red-cross traffic alert.
  • Blind-spot monitoring.
  • Rear seat alert.

Competition

2023 Honda Odyssey vs 2022 Chrysler Voyager

The 2023 Honda Odyssey offers magic slide 2nd-row seats which are easy to adjust and provide easy third-row access. For improved acceleration and a lower engine speed on the highway, the Honda Odyssey comes standard with a 10-speed automatic transmission. For the Chrysler Voyager, only a nine-speed automatic is offered. The Odyssey comes with standard 18-inch wheels for superior load carrying, comfort, handling, and brake cooling. On the Voyager, only 17-inch wheels are offered. Standard front and rear stabilizer bars on the Odyssey aid in keeping the vehicle level and in control when cornering. The suspension of the Voyager does not include a rear stabilizer bar. Due to the Odyssey's higher resale value, the buyer will pay less over time.

2023 Honda Odyssey vs 2022 Chrysler Pacifica

The 2023 Honda Odyssey offers the CabinWatch feature which can even in the dark, keep an eye on your back passengers, this type of high-technology view lacks in other counterparts. Additionally, it offers a powerful engine, upscale high-quality cabin materials, and a comfortable and serene ride quality. On the other hand, the 2022 Chrysler Pacifica is a reliable Odyssey substitute. It has recently received stylistic and technological updates to help keep it current, and the availability of all-wheel drive appeals to those who live in rainy and snowy climates. However, the second-row seats in the 2022 Chrysler Pacifica are less comfy, and the driving experience is less polished.

2023 Honda Odyssey vs 2022 Kia Carnival

The 2023 Honda Odyssey offers a walk-away auto lock that can lock automatically after you park and shut all the doors. Additionally, the 2023 Honda Odyssey offers an unbeatable storage space that has a center console that is deep and open and has compartments for all household essentials like tissues, wipes, and sippy cups. On the other hand, the 2022 Kia Carnival offers one of the class’ most appealing minivans which is stylish and sleek looking. Additionally, a very calm 290-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 and an 8-speed automated transmission are also available. However, the 2022 Kia Carnival controls might be challenging to use while driving, and it isn't as pleasurable to drive as the Odyssey.

Final Verdict

Yes, we recommend the 2023 Honda Odyssey over its competition as it is well-rounded and enticingly competent, boasting a versatile cabin, a sizable list of standard amenities, and a surprisingly eager performance and handling. It's certain that the Odyssey will meet all of your requirements for a minivan. It is family-friendly thanks to its extensive list of safety features, strong engine, and superb build quality makes it difficult to match over other contemporaries. Nevertheless, it is undeniable that in almost every situation, this is the most effective way to transport people and goods. The Honda Odyssey excels in this regard among all the minivans present in its competition.
