I don’t like this vehicle at all! It’s loud, you feel every bump you hit, the gas pedal vibrates like crazy when you accelerate, and it’s extremely poorly crafted. I left a dent just trying to close the hatch. I don’t recommend this vehicle to anyone!Read More

... never even came close to what the sticker stated (even with long distance trips) from Florida to Georgia on the Highway. Honda suggested put a couple thousand more miles on the car and the gas mileage would get better- which it did not. We were always Honda buyers but after this automobile - we will be trading elsewhere.Read More

The Honda HR-V is a good choice for subcompact SUV lovers from various aspects. The Honda HR-V remains on top of the preference list of maximum SUV lovers due to its good sense of balance. Thanks to its CVT transmission and front-wheel drive that makes this SUV’s performance serious concern for some of its close competitors. With the market price of the SUV beginning from $21,220, the vehicle seems to be a tough competitor for the Ford EcoSport and the Mazda CX-30 with a market price starting from $22,040 and $22,050 respectively. Apart from that, the HR-V seems to face a tough upper hand from the Chevrolet Trax too which has a beginning market price of $21,400.

Despite its economic market price and outstanding on-road performance, the SUV’s popularity might be questioned due to the complaints raised about its reliability factor. However, there are no recalls reported about the car on the NHTSA website as of now. Yet, however, it's important to understand the complaints that have been issued against the SUV.

Engine and Mechanical Problems

  • Transmission issues

Transmission problems are common in maximum Honda HR-V SUVs. On multiple occasions, the transmission denies moving from reverse to driving mode, causing inconvenience to the Honda owners. Such issues with faulty transmission must be addressed and needed to be taken care of.

  • Loss of engine power

Loss of engine power is one of the serious concerns noted in Honda HR-V SUVs.

Maximum owners have found that the car engine fails to gain speed and power despite hard pressing the accelerator pedal when the vehicle is at low speed, leading the car engine to stop all of a sudden. The warning lights also seem dead during the occurrence of such an event. Such issues like suddenly slowing down the car's speed might compel the other cars approaching from behind to halt and if they’re in motion they might trigger a crash risk.

  • Noisy sound from the brakes

A noisy scraping sound is being traced while deploying the brakes of Honda HR-V SUVs. It looks as if the emergency brakes have been engaged, whereas such might not be the case. Getting such noisy sounds while activating the brakes can be pretty disturbing while driving the car, which needs to be addressed to know the reason for which such sound is emerging while driving the vehicle.

Miscellaneous Problems

  • Faulty fuel gauge indicator

Due to some miscellaneous issues, often the fuel indicator stops showing the exact amount of fuel available in the fuel tank. Sometimes, it has been seen that the available fuel in the car is less than the amount of fuel notified by the fuel indicator. Such issues may confuse the driver while driving, which needs to be addressed and reconciled.

Safety Problems

  • Faulty SRS indicator

Issues with faulty SRS indicator lights are a common concern in maximum Honda HR-V SUVs. Such lights turn on out of the blue while the car engine is ignited. Sometimes, the brake indicator is automatically deployed even if the driver does not engage in any brake. Such things need to be addressed and resolved soon.

Electrical Problems

  • Loss of communication gauge control

Sudden loss of communication is a serious issue in maximum vehicles. Such instances occur when PCM and a particular module lead to communication loss leading the vehicle engine to shut off and may not restart again. Such issues must be addressed and needed to be taken care of so that they can be eliminated from the root.

  • Issues with the audio screen

Faulty infotainment issues like the audio screen turning black and going unresponsive are commonly found in most of the Honda HR-V SUVs. Such things usually affect the normal functionality of the infotainment system in the SUV which needs to be addressed soon so that it can be eliminated.

2021 Honda HR-V Recall

No recalls have been reported or issued by NHTSA on the 2020 Honda HR-V yet.

Should you prefer buying a used Honda HR-V?

Choosing an old Honda HR-V SUV can be a good decision, depending upon its current on-road present performance and its resale value. Though the faulty engine, problematic infotainment screen, and other electrical issues are a serious concern for buyers, the brand did not wait too long for fixing these problems in the 2021 Honda HR-V SUVs. They directed the dealers to replace and repair the faulty parts causing the technical problems and repaired them for free of cost in those vehicles which were under the warranty period. Eventually, that made the vehicle free from every issue it had encountered earlier.

So, if someone is looking ahead to purchase a used Honda HR-V, they should examine it thoroughly to ensure it's free from the commonly reported issues.
