That is a huge failure and a simpe google search will show you this is a common problem with several generations of CRVs. Quite disappointed with Honda, it is no longer a reliable brandRead More

Being one of the segment favorites for decades, the 2021 Honda CR-V is a car that is hard to ignore if you’re in the market for a compact crossover SUV. Although coming with the stellar reliability reputation of being a Honda, there are a few Honda CRV common problems. The advanced driver assistance systems seem to be a problem area but with a total of 43 complaints as of now, the 2021 model has a few other issues as well. Overall, it has still established itself as a reliable alternative as we will find in this article. The fifth-generation Honda CR-V competes against the Mazda CX-5, the Toyota RAV4, and the Hyundai Tucson, among others. Prices start at a mere MSRP of $27,325 and the car is offered in a wide variety of trim levels. Below, you will read more about Honda CRV issues, relating to the 2021 model.

The 2021 CR-V has a predicted reliability score of 84 out of 100. A J.D. Power predicted reliability score of 91-100 is considered the Best, 81-90 is Great, 70-80 is Average, and 0-69 is Fair and considered below average. The 2021 Honda CR-V's affordability and history of reliability make it a family-focused SUV option that many buyers can be confident in. But, for the price and options, it isn’t without its own problems, but like many other vehicles, these small problems are more of an annoyance than a concern, making it unlikely that they will deter many buyers from an otherwise well-rounded vehicle like the 2021 Honda CR-V.

2021 Honda CR-V User Complaints and Problems

Mechanical problems:

  • One owner reported that even though the accelerator pedal was not pushed, the vehicle suddenly accelerated without any warning. The incident was reported to the Honda dealer but no solution was found. Although there have been Honda CRV CVT transmission problems, this seems like a new issue.
  • One owner has reported a complete brake failure in which the owner had to coast to a stop. There have been a few complaints regarding complete brake failures in this car.
  • One contact stated that while driving at 55 mph, the steering wheel vibrated very abnormally. The vehicle also swerved to the right and left with an abnormal sound, which seems to be one of the Honda CRV power steering problems.

Electrical system problems:

  • There have been a few issues reported regarding the phone connectivity features. A few owners have found Honda CRV Apple CarPlay not working intermittently and this causes a huge disturbance.
  • Some owners have complained that the start button happens to have a malfunction at times. This is then followed by the brake warning in the instrument cluster and a message to bring the car to the dealer.
  • One contact reported that while seated inside the vehicle, the vehicle showed warning lights for both ACC and ABS. The dealer was unable to duplicate the issue.
  • There are a few complaints regarding a low battery voltage warning light illuminated along with the check engine light. The vehicle then enters limp mode and has to be restarted. The issue has happened to a lot of owners and is one of the most common Honda CRV battery problems.

Exterior problems:

  • Although it is not a common issue, few owners have faced issues with the windshield cracking, and the spreading of the crack causes visibility issues.
  • One owner reported that the hood latch sensors started beeping while on a trip. It can be concluded that the hood has issues because it starts vibrating at times. According to another owner, the hood flew open while driving. Previously, there were a few Honda CRV door lock problems but this seems unrelated.

Safety problems:

  • Many owners have reported that the forward collision avoidance system is engaged for no reason. The car brakes when there are no cars present upfront and can cause rear-end collisions.
  • One owner reported that the airbags did not deploy when a crash happened and the car was causing a safety concern. The same owner had reported issues with the seatbelts not locking properly on the passenger side.
  • One owner continually had messages flashing about an airbag fault. However, there was no solution found for the issue.
  • One of the most common areas of complaint about the Honda CR-V happens to be the lane-keep assist system. There have been many instances where the car veers out of lane or tries to steer into disaster.

Interior problems:

  • One owner reported that the vehicle cannot warm up the cabin when it is idling. It can only be done when the vehicle is in motion and hence the car cannot be prepared for trips in advance during winters.

Should you buy the 2021 Honda CR-V?

The 2021 Honda CR-V is a desirable car due to its refinement, efficiency, as well as practicality. Despite showing up a large number of complaints, most of them are regarding the active safety features and are common across all the manufacturers. We believe that these features are still in their latent stage of development and require a few more years to be perfected. All other things considered, the Honda CR-V is a reliable car and would be one of the most recommended compact crossovers. Check out 2021 Honda CR-V's buying advice to know more.
