Overview

Consumerism might be taking a shift towards multi-facet body styles, preferably SUVs, but the pick-up trucks are not way behind in that favoritism index. Bold in appearance with an immensely appreciated thrust under the hood is the new reference of the all-new trucks and the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab AT4 Diesel is expected to continue with that same legacy.

Buying Advice

Selection of trim is not a concern here, rather having a dilemma of owning one is inevitable. But those questions can be put to rest as it has a perfect blend of power and torque which allows it to keep you thrilled when the pedal is floored to the bottom without losing its sight of utilitarianism with a towing capacity of nearly 9,300 lbs. Seat-positioning, cushioning, and heightening including the power-adjustability along with automatic temperature regulation are just apt for one’s convenience inside the cabin. On the whole, it has everything for which one should consider it in the first place.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The natural instinct of high payload and towing capacity with a relative performance slope has been one of the normals of the Sierra irrespective of any model. This off-road pick-up truck with its inherent 4WD has established a reputation to date that is worth considering. The GMC logo goes straight against the likes of the Ford F-150 Diesel SuperCrew, Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Diesel Crew Cab, and the RAM 1500 Diesel with a slightly hefty price tag and will be interesting to observe if it is worth investing in or not.

Features

The GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab AT4 Diesel is a package of both performance and towing without losing its breath. The 2022 model is very much expected to be in line with what has been offered in the 2021 model in most of the categories. The 3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel I6 engine along with the standard 10-speed automatic transmission is one of those assets that has retained its relevance as per the requirement of the segment and henceforth will be retaining that in the upcoming model most probably.

The Trailer sway control, Hill-start Assist, and Proactive Roll Avoidance are so exemplary in their pursuits that even the engineers won’t have any intent to discard them any sooner. Even if the cabin remained as it is, which we anticipate it is likely to be, then it will be no surprise to spot those 10-way power-adjustment front seats and Dual-zone automatic climate control at our service.

It is essential to have fascinating standard features but it is as important as to have an essence of packages as well that can bring the feel and touch onto a different level. Fortunately, that is something we have confronted in its predecessor with the extensions like the Technology Package, Premium Package, Value Package, and counting with some extra investment.

Along with such packages, one gets a myriad of features and assists ranging from the 8" diagonal Digital Driver Information Center to Bose Premium Sound System inside the cabin while Automatic Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Forward Collision Alert around the frame. These aforementioned have already proven their metal that one can hardly pinpoint any specific one which will be kept out of the purpose in the upcoming model. So it is reasonable to think of them to be there with a much higher probability.

2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab AT4 Diesel Release Date

The dates of production of this machinery have been announced as the 20th of September 2021 but nothing has been alluded to regarding its sale and booking deadlines yet which is why it is safe not to comment any further until an official announcement hits the headlines.

Fuel Economy
2.0/10

The powertrain of the pick-up trucks is going through a promising transition which has too much to offer in the coming days. Imagining a truck to have a payload of more than 2000 lbs, towing capacity of more than 9000 lbs, and a performance dynamics of 135 mph with a decent fuel economy was once nothing less than a fairy tale but it is no more like that with the advent of machinery like the GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab AT4 Diesel itself that can return a mileage of 22 mpg in the cities, 26 mpg on the highways, and 24 mpg overall. Though the figures for the 2022 model have not been officially finalized yet, we have taken the 2021 model specs for reference.

Though the GMC has a decent fuel efficiency on offer, it is its 24-gallon fuel tank because of which it falls short on the range parameter, covering 624 miles at the max. The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Diesel Crew Cab has something similar to offer. On the other hand, rivals like the RAM 1500 Diesel and Ford F-150 Diesel SuperCrew are far better in range coverage with a capacity to hit more than 700 highway miles quite easily.

Interior
8.5/10

From merely being a daily commuting parcel-carrying vehicle as the name suggests to a new status symbol of showoff and Americanness in current days, a lot has changed in this changing landscape for the pick-up truck segment. And much of the credit goes to those who brought about the unorthodox appeal in its interior approach. The GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab AT4 Diesel is just a portrayal of that changed perspective as it is not just spacious and has sound ergonomics but has an inconspicuous charm as well which can’t be felt until you enter it. The Perforated leather front seat trim along with Jet Black and Kalahari accents are the exact synonyms of that ambiance.

Don’t let yourself be content with just accents only as the 10-way power adjustment and heating function for the front seats including the heated steering wheel are conjugated with the dual-zone automatic climate control air conditioning for an overall comfortable acquaintance with the cabin. One can also view the rear with an HD Surround Vision and a Bed-View Camera. These assets and assists have already been established in the 2021 model and we have a strong conviction that each of them is likely to have its presence in the newer model.

The accent is the brighter side of the moon which is visible by naked eyes. The darker side that’s not visible is the significance of numbers with which they are scaled. But as per the coincidence, they all weigh the same in this category simply for the fact that they have got comparable space management with equivalent flexibility. The only variation we could spot is that of accent and once one is done with that, he/she is simply inside the cabin under different badging. One of the plus points of the GMC and Chevrolet is their higher cargo capacity that may give them a slight head start. On the other hand, the Ford and Ram lag considerably behind with cargo capacity being almost 10 cu.-ft smaller. Some of the expected features are:

  • Driver Information Center
  • Perforated leather front seat
  • Kalahari accents
  • HD Surround Vision
  • Bed-View Camera
  • 10-way power adjustment for seats
  • Heating functions for seat and steering wheel
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control air conditioning

How intuitive is the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab AT4 Diesel’s infotainment unit?

As mentioned earlier, the GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab AT4 Diesel is no simple pick-up truck for many reasons. The starkest among them all surely is its entertainment category which has been adorned with the standard 8" diagonal Premium GMC Infotainment System that can be upgraded with a Navigation algorithm with a little extra investment. For one musical interest, the realm gets a 6-speaker system but if that is not enough for your listening range then the high-performance Bose Premium Sound System is also on display along with a Head-Up Display.

Apart from optional features, there are standard features such as SiriusXM, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto as well which will make your day. Therefore, the proposition is highly desirable but opting for some package alongside will be advisable. The description is that of the 2021 model which is very much in contention to be brought back without any scraping but some minor tweaks can be there in the upcoming model. Some of the expected features are:

  • 6-speaker system
  • SiriusXM
  • Head-Up Display
  • 8" diagonal Premium GMC Infotainment System
  • Navigation unit
  • Bose Premium Sound System
  • Apple CarPlay
  • Android Auto

Who would have ever imagined that once a day would come when a bossy character would be a new normal and an urge that would be pursued by the masses. Certainly not many but the trend is in motion and the GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab AT4 Diesel is one of the few that is paving the way for others. Wide front fascia with iconic C-shaped headlamps encompassing the chrome-accented grille is something that has accustomed to our viewpoint for the GMC trucks. The bonnet appears as if it has been out of proportion yet remains ironically within the limits. The coloring options of White Summit as a standard and Cardinal Red, Onyx Black, and Satin Steel Metallic Cayenne Red Tintcoat as optional are way too many to choose from, each unique in their glares.

The description does entail the likes of the muscular wheel trims as well which include the standard 18" machined aluminum wheels with Dark Grey accents and optional 20" machined aluminum wheels with Carbon Grey Metallic accents that cost around $800. In addition to them, additional attachments such as the Roof Carriers, 16-Inch Amber LED Light Bar, and many more can also be availed of with it. As per our knowledge to date, we assume all these assets right from accents to attachments to be in a loop, at least, for the newer model.

The dimensions are way too important for such a body style for two-fold reasons. One is the capacity to offer the cabin spaciousness with a defined limit and the other is the handling stability with larger numbers yet compact in comparison. The GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab AT4 Diesel, if retains the figure, then it going to be the lightest among its rivals which generally makes a lot more difference in forward nose-diving while hard braking and mass transfer on the corner wheels that are directly proportional to the speed at which it is happening. GMC has surely done a nice job in this domain and the Chevy follows the same lead. While the RAM has a little more to achieve. Some of the expected features are:

  • 18" machined aluminum wheels with Dark Grey accents
  • 20" machined aluminum wheels with Carbon Grey Metallic accents
  • 16-Inch Amber LED Light Bar
  • Steel Metallic Cayenne Red Tintcoat accent
  • 8" 265/65R18SL all-terrain, Blackwall tires
  • Hard-folding tonneau cover
  • 18" LT275/65R18C Mud-Terrain Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac Blackwall tires

Safety
8.0/10

The standard features on offer for the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab AT4 Diesel are self-sufficient to avoid the crash energy but the precision and accuracy reach another level with additional enhancements with packages like the Driver Alert Package I and II. The suite is expected to be the same in the upcoming model with little or no upgrade at all. And if that remains so then one will be entitled to have security with the StabiliTrak in handling along with the Proactive Roll Avoidance System.

Adaptive Cruise Control, IntelliBeam, Forward Collision Alert and Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning are other top-notch assists that can be availed of by spending $1,985 in a go and that is highly recommendable. In addition to these, the Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Automatic Emergency Braking, Front and Rear Park Assist, and Front Pedestrian Braking are also available at its disposal within the same price range. On the whole, the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab AT4 Diesel will be inspiring in its peers if our speculations are anywhere close to being practical. Some of the expected features are:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • IntelliBeam
  • Forward Collision Alert
  • Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning
  • Proactive Roll Avoidance System
  • StabiliTrak
  • Front Pedestrian Braking
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Alert
  • Front and Rear Park Assist
  • Automatic Emergency Braking

2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab AT4 Diesel vs 2021 Ford F-150 Diesel SuperCrew

The Ford F-150 Diesel SuperCrew is one of the finest pick-up trucks in the market because of its towing capacity without giving up on its performance curve. The overall range practicality further adds to its beauty. On the other hand, the GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab AT4 Diesel might squeeze past the former in acceleration but the gap is marginal and at the same time lags behind it by a significant range deficit. There are ups and downs throughout their analysis but in the end, they are almost parallel to one another. So both can be given preference on the same level.

2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab AT4 Diesel vs 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Diesel Crew Cab

Belonging to the same parent company, except from a styling point of view, there is no major difference between the two. Be it the powertrain configuration, performance, mileage, or range, they are just sided by side. Even the cabin arrangement is at par with one another. Though, the only one side where the GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab AT4 Diesel might be on the brighter end, is its appeal altogether. Therefore, one can choose it over the Chevrolet Silverado just for this difference only.

2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab AT4 Diesel vs 2021 RAM 1500 Diesel

The GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab AT4 Diesel has an edge over the RAM 1500 Diesel in almost every important department except for the range where the latter has a reading of more than 700 miles. Apart from that, the GMC has a better performance curve, cargo capacity, and much better handling because of its lighter weight. Just being cheap is sometimes not enough and that is pretty evident from the spec sheets of these two competent pick-up trucks that are available in the current scenario.

Final Verdict

The signals are positive only for the GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab AT4 Diesel as the expected features sound way too promising in their functionalities and approaches. So there is no holding back for it and one can give it a go. Meanwhile, one can also check out the Ford production and its sibling Silverado as well for a better understanding.
