The Ford Taurus is a car that just sits there among the affordable full-size sedan segment of the car market. There is nothing particularly exciting or something that makes the vehicle stand out among its competition like the Nissan Maxima, the Dodge Charger, and the Chevrolet Impala. It’s a comfortable cruiser with a decent, and nothing much else can be said about the Ford sedan. The official statistics are as follows: 2 recalls and 9 complaints. The most persistent complaint was about the brakes. The most comical complaints about certain models allowing owners to remove their keys without the transmission being in “park” mode. This article will help you find out the issues the 2018 Ford Taurus is facing.

2018 Ford Taurus User Complaints and Problems

Mechanical Problems

  • Brakes prematurely failing -. Users have complained that the brakes failed prematurely for them. For one user, the brake rotors were so worn out that they almost came into metal-to-metal contact. For another, the compression of the brake pedal failed to slow down the vehicle.
  • Powertrain failing to warn the user properly - Allowing the keys to be taken out before the vehicle is put in “park” gear has caused some mishaps for some users. It has led to their vehicle rolling over and causing minor dents to the vehicle.

Electrical Problems

  • Electrical malfunction of the headlights - The headlights fail to illuminate sufficiently enough to make the road ahead visible for the users and have been a concern for some.
  • Accelerator hesitating: On unofficial forums, some users find the vehicle shows some kind of "hesitation" , and take some time to pick speed when they want to properly accelerate the vehicle.

Safety Problems

  • Low anchors of the child safety seats- During an accident, the low anchors that keep the child seat intact can cause bruising to the rear-seated occupants. As of now, this has caused some injuries, but nothing of major concern. However, it is something to be aware of.

Remedy

1

10th February 2020

20V072000

Possibility of fracture occurring on the rear toe links.

Due to miscalculated stress from the rear suspension, the rear toe link might fracture and compromise the structural integrity of the vehicle.

The dealership will change the toe links free of charge.

1st March 2018

18V141000

Key can be removed even if the vehicle is not in park.

The particular model has an issue with the key being removed from the ignition without the transmission being in the "Park" position. As such, this fails to comply with the FMVSS regulations for safety.

The dealership will have to replace the shifter assembly. They will do this with no additional charge to the user.

Should you buy the 2018 Ford Taurus

The 2018 Ford Taurus offers you decent comfortability and a large cabin, both of which are good for family purposes. In addition, the mileage and the overall price tag of the vehicle are a bonus point for many. There is nothing unique about this vehicle, the design both inside and out is mundane. Nonetheless, the complaints and recalls are very few in number, and the safety concerning complaints are only a few in number. Still, the 2018 Nissan Maxima is still something you can also consider. The vehicle provides comfort and most importantly good safety scores. But the Nissan costs more, as the features offered are broader.
