Overview
Being one of the modern-day design icons that try to be as practical as possible, the Fiat 500L is not for everyone. Rather, it is for ones with taste in terms of design. The regular Fiat 500 is a bit too small for American sensibilities and hence, this car represents a better compromise on multiple aspects. It is an all-new offering for the 2014 model year and the design has surely made it stand out from the rest of its segment. Prices start at an MSRP of $20,045 which is serious money in the subcompact wagon segment.
You are treated to a very modest 1.4 L in-line four-cylinder engine that makes 160 hp and comes with a six-speed manual transmission. It is a front-wheel-drive car that reaches the 60 mph mark in 8.5 seconds from a standstill. There isn't a lot of competition, but the Kia Soul and the Nissan Cube are equally quirky cars that populate the segment. The Fiat is a bit bare-bones in terms of equipment levels as well, but let us see if its superior build quality makes it a better pick against its rivals.
