The brand reputation of Audi does not require any special mention in the midsize SUV segment, because of its iconic Q8, which sells for $70,800. The Q8’s unparalleled popularity made the model a real show-stopper and a burden for some of its rivals like the Porsche Cayenne and the Maserati Levante followed by none other than the BMW X5. Honestly, the X5 had a hard time maintaining the pace with Q8 on multiple grounds.

But the Q8’s fuel pump failure and transmission oil leakage somehow appeared to be a fatal blow to Audi’s brand reputation in 2020, due to which the brand had to issue 2 recalls and register 7 complaints on NHTSA. These issues somehow affected the brand reputation of Audi, giving rapid ground to its arch-rivals which they used as an opportunity to push themselves. Apart from these issues, the car’s loyalty was equally questioned when problems were found with the vehicle’s auto-lock functionality.

Electrical Problems

  • Faulty warning pop-ups

The electrical gauge cluster often pops up faulty warning messages even if there’s nothing wrong with the forward collision avoidance or any other issue. Such problems usually occur when the vehicle’s control unit fails to detect the difference between a malfunction and a normal function. The faulty sensors are the prime culprit behind such issues which should be inspected and repaired soon.

  • Delayed transmission

Faulty electrical sensors might lead to delays in gear shifting on multiple occasions. Such delay might cause inconvenience to the driver while speeding low or speeding up. Such instances have a maximum risk of triggering road accidents, especially while driving through highways. Therefore, the issue has to be addressed and resolved soon.

  • Faulty driver assistance system

Often faulty driver assistance has been found a common problem in most of the Q8 SUVs. Multiple users have encountered such issues when the electronic braking system deploys brakes and unnecessarily compels the car to halt. This kind of issue usually shows up when the faulty sensors fail to identify when it is needed to deploy the brakes and when it's not. The dealers should take this concern seriously and replace the faulty sensors with newer ones.

Engine and Mechanical Problems

  • Transmission issues

Transmission issues lead the vehicle to slow down speed is a common problem with most Q8 SUVs. The issues are common when the car’s auto speed control unit fails to detect the appropriate gear engagement while the vehicle is on move. The failure to detect the right gear shift might stop the vehicle’s auto transmission to perform normally, thereby leading to the reduction of car speed where actually it should be speeding up, especially while it is running on the highways. Such types of malfunction can somehow compromise the car’s speed and eventually increase the vehicle coming from the back to ram the car for not maintaining the required speed limit. The dealership should inspect the issues and fix the problem soon.

Fuel pump malfunction might stop the normal diesel flow in the engine, ultimately stalling it after running a few miles or even less than that. Such instances happen when any component in the fuel pump breaks.

The dealers have been instructed to replace the faulty fuel pump for free. The recall number issued by Audi for the problem was 20DR.

Should you Buy a 2020 Audi Q8?

The Audi Q8 is one of the most reliable vehicles till now in the midsize SUV category. The vehicle's market resale value and unbelievable loyalty had been an instrumental force that compelled its close competitors to maintain sufficient distance. This was one of the main reasons for which the brand’s loyalty was highly appreciated.

However, a few issues like faulty fuel pipeline malfunction and transmission oil pipe leakage challenged the brand reputation of the vehicle in various ways. That was when the brand decided to issue a recall for the 2020 Audi Q8 and finally revived the model for the respective year, by getting rid of all those problems that the owners raised earlier. So, if someone is planning to acquire a used Audi Q8 we would always suggest the buyers verify its present condition.

If the car does not suffer from any of those issues it suffered earlier, we are no one to stop them from initiating a purchase of a Q8 from 2020, if the resale market price looks suitable.
