During the occurrence of the problems, the engine also leaked oil and the exact reason for the failure is undetermined.
- Engine malfunction: One owner mentions that while the vehicle was being driven at moderate speeds, around 30mph, the powertrain malfunctioned. Since the driver was distracted by all the failures, the vehicle was involved in a collision too.

Upon further inspection, the brake booster failure was detected by the dealership.
- Forward collision warning system malfunction: Some owners of the 2020 Tiguan have faced issues with the FCW system of the SUV. In a few cases, the system falsely activated the warnings while the owners were driving. In some cases, the system falsely detected obstructions on the roads and applied the brakes.

Should you buy a used 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan?
The 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan is a classy-looking compact crossover with impressive safety scores and a dependable reliability aspect. However, it does lack in some key areas such as offering a sub-par fuel economy and lethargic acceleration. On the brighter side, the 2020 model of the SUV manages to draw attention with its significantly low numbers of complaints as compared to its sales figure and beats some of its peers in this area too. Also, doing a thorough inspection to rule out the water leakage issue and excessive engine oil consumption issue should make it worth buying even in the used vehicle market.
