I have had TWO 2021 jettas, the first one not even for 10k miles. It stopped driving and the fuel modules went out three times, then finally the engine ran out of oil while I was driving and ceased up for good. My second one which was a lemon replacement is starting to follow the pattern of the problems my first one had. Bad engineRead More

Got a grinding noise when accelerating from transmission around 30mph. Dealer says it's normal noise even though there is a class action lawsuit for earlier model Jettas with the same issue. Eventually leads to transmission fluid leaks and failure but I guess they don't want to warranty it. My remote start stoppedRead More

My car has less than 300 miles on it and it is a month old. I've noticed that each time I accelerate onto a highway or high speed roadway- there is a weird noise that emanates from the engine between 25-30 MPH that last for a few seconds- metal on metal type of sound. Read More

Volkswagen Jetta, despite looking compact, is quite comfortably spacious from inside. 2021 Jetta manages to consume less fuel than its hatchback sibling Golf. The 147hp power unit, though it feels underpowered on paper, is quite peppy in the city. But when it comes to highways, it might disappoint some.

When it comes to reliability, there have been 4 recalls and 11 recorded complaints lodged by the car owners on the 2021 Volkswagen Jetta as of now.

Mechanical Complaints

  • Engine - As per customer complaints, during reversing at moderate speed suddenly the vehicle started losing motive power, check engine light got turned on and this was noticed in just 4000 miles of usage. Also there is a noticeable stalling issue in traffic where the Jetta simply had the engine off without even any warning light.
  • Suspension - An owner complained that while cruising, the suspension becomes unstable at 55mph.
  • Powertrain - Even after having the engine properly warmed up a sudden jump in RPM while stopping at traffic light has been noticed, also other than putting it to neutral, the car does not stop as per the customer complaint.

Safety Complaints

  • Air Bags - Multiple complaints have been lodged against having a faulty Air Bag Warning light being turned on suddenly.
  • Seat Belts - Few cases of a faulty seat belt buckle on the passenger side, where either the buckle was faulty or the clicking mechanism was too hard that one has to hold it with two hands to use it.

Electrical Complaints

  • Warning Lights- Faulty warning lights suddenly popping up for door open and emergency brake causing various start stop errors have been noticed.

A black or frozen rear view image reduces the driver's visibility when reversing, increasing the risk of a crash.

Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will update the infotainment system software, free of charge. The recall began December 11, 2020. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 91BB/91BC.

Should you buy the 2021 Volkswagen Jetta?

2021 Jetta looks very fresh in terms of its European feel and appeal. It has amazing interior space and provides comfort at a very reasonable price. It gives a head on competition to Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Kia Forte and Subaru Impreza. However it comes with its own set of ownership difficulties. Despite the cons which are minimal in nature, if you're looking for a balanced, capable and comfortable sedan, we definitely recommend the 2021 Volkswagen Jetta.
