Toyota’s vehicles are synonymous with longevity and sturdiness and the new Toyota Tundra Crew Cab seems to be a by-product of a similar ideology. Part of the second generation launched in 2007, the pickup truck has ranked appreciably in its class, which can be credited to its trouble-free nature and a restricted list of user grievances. In its latest iteration, the 2021 Toyota Tundra Crewmax has had 3 complaints and a similar number of recalls to its name. While its performance is idealistic considering its high sales-volume stature, the truck falls into an overly competitive ballpark that houses the likes of the Ford F-150 SuperCrew, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew Cab, and the RAM 1500 Crew Cab. So, in this review, we will discuss in detail the 2021 Tundra Crewmax ownership experience.

2021 Toyota Tundra Crewmax User Complaints and Problems

Electric System Complaints

  • Electric system niggles: Among the list of Tundra common problems, the electric system concerns are largely rampant. In the 2021 MY as well, buyers have reported the truck to behave erratically on several occasions, due to distinct and underlying electric concerns. These include the illumination of warning messages, problems with the radio system, and also the remote start option. Additionally, in some cases, the pre-collision avoidance system and headlight electric connectors have also malfunctioned. While there has been no solution for the former, the latter complaint has been resolved by Toyota through a recall, referenced by NHTSA ID 21V688000.

Interior Complaints

  • Uncomfortable passenger seats: A couple of buyers of the 2021 Tundra Crewmax have reported the passenger seat to lack an element of comfort. On longer drives, complainants have reported numbness in their legs, due to restricted movement capabilities and the odd placement of the seat.

Mechanical Complaints

  • Lousy powertrain unit: Amongst the listed problems, Tundra transmission issues are neither rampant nor recurring. Yet, some buyers have reported the transmission system to be slow-moving. As a result, there is an evident delay in the shifting between the gears, which can have an impact on the driving experience.

Should you buy the 2021 Toyota Tundra Crewmax?

Belonging to a revered Japanese nametag, the new Tundra Crewmax is every buyer’s delight. While its commercial capabilities lie in tandem with the segment standards, the truck gains ascendancy over its competitors with its high degree of reliability and safety quotient. Though it has had its fair share of complaints initially, the newer iterations, including 2021 MY, are hassle-free and provide a comprehensive experience. So, if you are looking for a full-size pickup truck that spends more time on the road than in a warehouse, Toyota has you covered.
