Overview

The 2013 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab is a prominent contender in the midsize pickup truck segment, competing primarily only with the Nissan Frontier King Cab. Another closest competitor includes the Honda Ridgeline Crew Cab. Prices start off at an MSRP of $22,525 with the Base trim, reaching all the way to the top PreRunner V6 trim carrying an MSRP of $27,685, for a total of 3 trims being offered. With multiple powertrains available for the multiple trim levels, there is a Tacoma for everyone. The Toyota Tacoma Double Cab offers 2 exciting powertrains, each offered as both an RWD and 4WD. The base engine is a 2.7L Inline-4 engine mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission, capable of making 159 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque. This engine is rated for a towing capacity of 3,500 pounds. Another engine is a larger 4.0L V6 engine affixed to a 6-speed manual transmission and 5-speed automatic transmission as optional, making 236 horsepower and carrying a towing capacity of 6,300 pounds. The Toyota Tacoma Double Cab models offer either a 5 feet bed or 6.1 feet bed. All in all, the Toyota Tacoma Double Cab delivers an exciting package, both in terms of performance and looks. The rugged and masculine exteriors are offered in 8 attractive colors.

Buying Advice

Out of the three trims on offer, our recommendation leans more toward the mid-level Pre-Runner trim with the powerful V6 engine option. Apart from the wide array of standard equipment. We think opting for the TRD Off road extra value package ($3,540) makes it more off-road capable by adding 16-inch alloy wheels, a heavy-duty suspension, fender flares, hill descent control on automatic transmission models, a locking rear differential, and a few more features.
