It's admirable that the new Toyota 86 has aged so gracefully. The dexterous road decorum and stylish exterior design of this low-cost sports coupe guarantee to convince. There have been some changes to its performance and infotainment. However, the 2018 infotainment system was far superior and more user-friendly. The Toyota 86 issues are quite severe, especially with the engine, fuel/propulsion system, service brakes, seat belts, and electrical system. The 2019 Toyota 86 Coupe's competitors are equally impressive: the Nissan 370Z, the Subaru BRZ, and the Mazda MX-5 Miata. Its rivals can catch pace with and even outperform the 86 in terms of reliability, but they fall short in terms of usefulness and everyday functionality. The 2019 Toyota 86 Coupe is a moderately reliable blending in the segment, with only 6 complaints and 1 recall. Let's examine in greater detail the problems it has encountered thus far.

2019 Toyota 86 problems, and user complaints

Engine and Mechanical Complaints

  • ENGINE: Numerous Toyota 86 owners have reported experiencing unsteady engine revs in neutral. This happens because the ECU was not properly encoded. The ECU must be reconfigured in this scenario. The angle for variable valve timing cannot be changed by the camshaft position sensor. This causes rough idling and engine misfires.
  • FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM: Toyota 86 model, as it has been explored that the coupe's fuel pump may unexpectedly stop working. A faulty fuel pump could cut off the source of the engine, starting causing the car to stop and potentially causing internal damage. A faulty fuel pump can cause an engine to stall while driving, raising the risk of a collision.
  • SERVICE BRAKES: The front brake pads on your 2019 Toyota 86 will typically deteriorate at a similar rate on both the right and left sides of your vehicle. Due to the nature of RWD vehicles, most front brake pads deteriorate over time more progressively than rear brake pads. The brake pads on a 2019 Toyota 86 typically last between 25000 miles.

Safety Complaints

  • SEAT BELTS: The contact owns a 2019 Toyota 86 and ended up crashing into the front quarter panel of another car while driving 45 mph. The driver and passenger seat belts were released without alert upon impact. The contact suffered burns and wrist injuries, the passenger suffered chest and head injuries, and both occupants received medical attention.

Dashboard

  • ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: The contact stated that the dash lights begin to flicker and that he then started to notice water dripping from the dash onto his feet. He drove the car to a Toyota dealership and was told there was nothing wrong with it. The car fired later due to an electrical issue behind the steering wheel.

Should you buy a used 2019 Toyota 86?

Toyota's 86 hasn't transformed much since it was renewed in 2017 as part of the Scion FR-S conversion, but it doesn't require much fine-tuning. The Toyota 86 is among the label's very few vehicles that offer both an ardent performance with supreme long-term efficiency. The Toyota 86 is an entertaining four-seat sports coupe. It is a reasonably priced RWD sports car that provides all of its promises. The 2019 Toyota 86 is a small car when compared with its rivals. These competitors are the Nissan 370Z, the Subaru BRZ, and the Mazda MX-5 Miata. Coming to disappointment, this sports car lacks refined security features. This is why nearly 3,398 people purchase the 2019 Toyota 86 Coupe. However, Toyota 86 has common problems and frequent concerns are the engine, fuel/propulsion system, service brakes, seat belts, and electrical system. After examining all the criteria of an ideal car for an American car enthusiast this car is moderately reliable. There are quite a few coupe options available other than the Toyota 86.
