The Nissan Pathfinder is a type of vehicle that you don’t mind getting but won’t pursue earnestly if you had a list of SUVs you would buy, and this particular model was not available readily. It is a decent SUV in the “affordable midsize SUV” department, with a decently powerful engine and infotainment system. In terms of reliability as well it is mediocre. There have been issues reported by multiple users, most commonly on the electrical system and the safety systems in place. The liftgate not operating accordingly, and issues with the AEB and ICC system. As of this date, there have been 2 recalls, and 25 complaints made against the 2019 Nissan Pathfinder, which has sold about 65,691 units. The Nissan SUV has competition from the Ford Explorer, and the GMC Acadia.
2019 Nissan Pathfinder User Complaints and Problems
Mechanical Problems
- Engine stalling and knocking sound -.Users have reported that the engine of the vehicle tends to stall out at times. Some users have complained that they would hear “knocking sounds” from the engine bay. There have also been cases where the engine shut down without any prior warning.
Electrical Problems
- Electrical malfunction of the windows and liftgate - Multiple users have stated that their windows and liftgate power system malfunction at times. The windows do not roll down or up (depending on the situation) as per the user's instructions. The liftgate has also caused minor inconvenience to a couple of users when it hit them while they were using the cargo hold.
Safety Problems
- Display while reversing - The display tends to show no image while using the “backing-up” camera, hence does not comply with the FMCSA regulations. Nissan has made recalls to certain units due to this, and this can be viewed in detail in the NHTSA website reference id:19V807000
- AEB and ICC system malfunction - Multiple users have stated that the AEB and ICC system gives a false warning and activated without any necessity, and have/could cause problems while in operation. There have also been complaints that the AEB system just switches off, which can directly disable the ICC system, as both are interlinked with each other.
Exterior Problems
- Sunroof exploding - Various users have stated that the glass on the sunroof exploded while the occupants were in the vehicle. There were no prior indications of compromise made to the sunroof glasses.

Should you buy the 2019 Nissan Pathfinder
This is a question with two answers to it. On one hand, it is an affordable vehicle with decent power output, with decent mileage of about 22 MPG combined, considering it is a V6. But the vehicle has had some problems in the reliability department. While the vehicle has only two types of recalls, the Nissan Pathfinder can have issues with the electrical system and safety system as mentioned above. But when it is compared to the GMC Acadia and Ford Explorer, the Nissan SUV has far few complaints. As always, due diligence can help you avoid the majority of the problems. Check if all the electrical connections are good, safety systems and their sensors are functioning properly and whether the brake fluid is intact on the ABS.
