Overview

The Lincoln Navigator is a go-to option for many American families that require a conventional full-size SUV with spacious seating for all members of the family, enough cargo space, a premium interior, and strong performance. The 2014 Lincoln Navigator feels sorted in all these aspects and that's probably why it returns unchanged this year with a refresh expected sometime next year. The 2014 Lincoln Navigator price starts at $56,165 excluding the $995 destination charge and in fact sees a price drop of $1,710 over the previous model year.

We Recommend

With no trims on offer, we recommend opting for the 2014 Lincoln Navigator 4WD as the 4WD drivetrain adds more practicality both on and off the roads.

Apart from the supple ride quality, the 2014 Lincoln Navigator interior offers quite a few features and plenty of space for all its occupants. The design might seem outdated but there is no lack of comfort. The towing capacity is also pretty strong for its segment, but the rivals like the Cadillac Escalade and the Infiniti QX80 offer a much more premium experience at a slightly higher cost. The GMC Yukon Denali is another competitor that also offers all the bells and whistles at a similar price tag as the Navigator 2014.

2014 Lincoln Navigator for sale

The Lincoln Navigator is available for sale with both finance and lease options. The finance offer starts at $981/month at 3.9% APR for a period of 60 months with a $5,600 down payment. The 2014 Navigator lease deals begin at a monthly premium of $847 for a 36-month tenure and an annual mileage limit of 12,000 miles and require the same down payment amount at the time of signing.

For budget-oriented buyers, the used Lincoln Navigator can be availed of with a base price of $1,950. Going for older model years like the 2012 Lincoln Navigator could be a matter of $9,795 and Lincoln Navigator 2012 can cost as much as $24,900 along with a listing of up to 47 in total.

Buying Advice

There’s just one trim level on offer and there’s nothing for you to choose from. If you do not live in a snowy area, the RWD configuration would just be fine as most owners will be driving it on paved surfaces only and hardly anybody will be taking their Navigator off-roading. However, if the Navigator should be your choice is a decision to make at the end of this review.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

With retro bodywork, The Lincoln Navigator 2014 keeps it traditional with a broad grille, that extends to the bumper, matched with a boxy aesthetic, to stand out in the segment. The speed metrics might not hit it out of the park but the 5.4 Liter V8 delivers the staggering Lincoln towing capacity of 9,100 lbs. Along with that, the interiors also follow the same aesthetics but do give in terms of comfort and features.

The Lincoln SUV can be elaborated further with a Standard-Duty Trailer Tow Package with a frame-mounted trailer hitch receiver and a monochrome appearance package. The 2021 Lincoln Navigator has a maintenance cost of $3,467 along with an estimated repairing expense of $1,452 over a course of five years. A depreciation in its resale value could hit as high as $50,000 for the same period.

Features
8.0/10

The Navigator is offered in just one trim level and it covers all the features that you may need. The Lincoln SUV features 10-way power-adjustable, heated, and ventilated front seats covered in leather followed by heated seats in the second row. The Lincoln Navigator cabin is given luxe with Dual-zone automatic climate control and enriched with a 14-speaker THX sound system with embedded voice command.

To add to passenger convenience, the Lincoln Navigator specs Driver’s side memory, easy entry to 3rd row with a 3rd-row PowerFold 60/40 split bench seat, controls on the back of the 1st-row center floor console, and Auto-dimming rearview mirror. For driver convenience, Navigator adds auto-dimming rearview mirror and cruise controller features.

Fuel Economy
4.0/10

The 2021 Lincoln Navigator gas mileage is quite good for a vehicle of this class and size. In cities, the fuel economy is rated at 14 mpg, while highway miles are accounted for at 20 mpg, and combining these figures yields 16 mpg. A 28.0-gallon gasoline tank is the biggest offering when it comes to this segment and is standard on the 2021 Lincoln Navigator allowing it to cover as much as 560 miles in a single fill.

All the other cars in the class deliver 16 MPG combined. The Navigator does deliver slightly better on the highway with 2mpg over the Escalade and the GMC, sitting along with the QX80 also does the same. The Navigator fuel capacity overpowers all others by 2 gallons over all other competitors, giving it an advantage of as much as 92 miles in terms of range.

Interior
8.0/10

The highlight of the interior of the 2014 Lincoln Navigator is the distributed passenger space across the rows. The SUV as standard comes with captain's chairs on the middle row and thus can accommodate 7 passengers. Seats as standard come wrapped in leather and are pretty comfortable. The first row has premium leather-trimmed, heated, and cooled, low-back bucket seats with 10-way power adjustments, including power lumbar and recline, along with driver's side memory. The second row comes with premium leather trim and heated, low-back, fold-down bucket seats with recline. The Navigator cargo capacity can accommodate up to about 18.1 cubic feet behind the third row and 103.3 cubic feet when all seats are up.

The interiors are elevated with authentic walnut swirl wood, Alloy Metallic, and Burnished Bronze accents. The climate is maintained via dual-zone electronic automatic temperature control and auxiliary climate control with 2 overhead vents for 2nd and 3rd rows. When it comes to infotainment, The Lincoln Navigator features Ford's SYNC infotainment system. The Navigator doesn't get a touchscreen infotainment system while most other cars in the competition offer one. The audio system is a 600-watt THX 5.1 Surround Audio System with 14 speakers including an 8" rear-mounted subwoofer and a 12-channel amplifier. Some of the highlighting features of the Navigator include

  • Leather upholstery
  • Heated and ventilated 10-way power-adjustable front seats
  • Heated second-row seats
  • Heated, leather, and wood-trimmed steering wheel
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control
  • Leather-wrapped gear shift lever
  • 14-speaker THX surround sound system

Exterior
6.0/10

The 2014 Navigator still holds a horizontally slated grille along with simple rectangular headlights with a sculpted bumper and a scooped-out hood that try to enhance the car’s design. At the back, a large glass panel on the power tailgate along with rectangular split LED taillights. The overall design of the SUV is neat and clean. The Navigator rides on 18-inch 7-spoke bright machined aluminum-alloy wheels which elevate and compliments the bulky stance of the vehicle.

The Navigator is a pretty large vehicle and spans over 206 inches. It has a large ground clearance of about 9.2 inches and you can take over all sorts of bad roads without any issue, although not many owners will take this one off-roading. It has a boxy, old-school SUV design but it just doesn’t have the presence and the appeal. The lengthy design helps add extra cargo capacity to the Navigator.

The INFINITI QX80 is the only other contestant that comes close to the length of the Lincoln Navigator, where the Cadillac and the GMC fall back by nearly 6 inches. The Lincoln Navigator exteriors hold a tall and commanding stance, boldface, a boxy shape, and look pretty brawny. On the other hand, the Cadillac and the Yukon share the same underpinnings, although they both look quite different. Again, both these vehicles have fresher designs and have better appeal and presence than the Navigator. Some of the standout exterior features are as follows:

  • 18-inch 7-spoke bright machined aluminum-alloy wheels
  • Powered and heated side mirrors
  • Speed-sensitive, rain-detecting wipers
  • Power running boards
  • Powered liftgate
  • Fully automatic projector-beam headlights
  • Chrome door handles

Safety
8.0/10

The 2014 Lincoln Navigator gets a 4-star safety rating from the NHTSA and that’s pretty decent because none of its rivals get a full 5-star rating. The IIHS hasn’t rated the 2014 Navigator and hence there’s no data. The ratings from the NHTSA however tell the story that this indeed is a pretty safe vehicle. The only downside though is that it doesn't come equipped with advanced safety features. We’ve listed a few standout safety features offered with the Navigator below:

  • AdvanceTrac with RSC (Roll Stability Control)
  • ABS and driveline traction control
  • Front and rear parking sensors
  • Low tire pressure warning
  • Backup camera

Final Verdict

Finally, it all boils down to one question, should the 2014 Lincoln Navigator be your next car purchase? Well, considering its sluggish engine, low fuel economy numbers, outdated interior, and exterior design, and very few safety features, we would hesitate to put our money on it. The INFINITI QX80 and the Cadillac Escalade both are fresh vehicles and come equipped with better features and powerful engines. And even if the price of the Navigator undercuts its rivals, spending a few extra bucks could just fetch you a much better vehicle.
