2021 marks the second running year for Lincoln’s new mid-size SUV, the Corsair. The reception has been rather warm and this year has seen a drop in sales. You won’t be surprised cause this SUV has almost 6 recalls under its belt since its launch and 3 are from the 2021 model year. Even though the complaints officially recognized by the NHTSA stand at a mere 7 for the year 2021, the actual figures do vary quite drastically when gazing over what forums have to say. Even though the mechanical side of this SUV has been more or less solid, electrical glitches are still of constant concern on this SUV. With a predicted reliability on the lower side, does the 2021 Lincoln Corsair have it to stand against the competition? With a base price of $36,015, the Lincoln Corsair will be going against the likes of midsize SUVs like the BMW X3, the Mercedes Benz GLC Class, and the Volvo XC60.
2021 Lincoln Corsair User Complaints and Problems
Mechanical Complaints
- Transmission: Not a widespread issue here but still an officially recognized complaint by the NHTSA. Owners have faced occasional shifting delays, intermittent jerks and sputtering during acceleration. The problem is said to be known by the automaker but no TCU firmware update has been released. The issue was spotted on a 2021 Corsair with under 10,000- miles on its odometer.
Electrical System complaints
- Battery: As a complaint by many owners, the Lincoln Corsair is said to go on a full electrical black-out without any warning. Everything from the key fob to the dashboard displays is said to not work. Battery voltages are also said to be in the normal state though when this happens and faults with the battery are ruled out. The only possible fix that said to resolve this issue was disconnecting and reconnecting the battery terminal. Owners have complained about this recurring problem, especially when trying to start the SUV. No official statement has been realized by the automaker on this issue.
- Steering: The heated steering function on the Lincoln Corsair is said to not work intermittently. Even if it does, owners complain of the system shutting itself off without the steering reaching the desired temperatures. The issue is said to be of common occurrence but no firmware update has been made available by the automaker on this issue.
- Infotainment: NHTSA has officially recognized complaints of a defective parking camera system on the 2021 Lincoln Corsair. Owners complain about the screen going blank when the SUV is engaged in reverse mode. Since this issue was a common occurrence among customers the automaker did initiate a recall (NHTSA ID-21V735000) which updated the firmware on the infotainment system.
Structural Complaints
- Suspension: Not a widespread issue, but NHTSA has officially recognized user complaints about the premature failure of the suspension struts on the 2021 Corsair. The previous model year did have a recall for suspension issues, but the issue was different.
Safety complaints
- Airbag: At least one instance where the airbags on the 2021 Lincoln Corsair failed to deploy in the event of a crash has been officially reported by the NHTSA. One injury has also been recorded against this issue officially. No official statements have been released by the automaker on this problem.
- Forward collision avoidance: Owners have complained about faults with the driver assist systems on the 2021 Corsair. The road sign recognition system is said to be faulty and is said to read signs from adjustment service lanes, abruptly slowing down the vehicle on the freeway.

Should you buy a used Lincoln Corsair?
The Lincoln Corsair is an SUV that is still in its infant stages as far as the market goes. Even though JD Power rates it great (87/100) for quality and reliability, that has not been the case when it comes to actual ownership, especially with the reliability part. Constant electrical niggles are something to look forward to on this SUV and most issues haven’t yet received plausible solutions from the automaker. Don’t get us wrong here, the 2021 Lincoln Corsair is one of the most luxurious and loaded midsize SUVs in its class, but as things stand, it would be wiser that you wait it out till they iron out most problems cause once the warranty is out, it would cost you a fortune to fix or replace stuff.
