There is nothing that beats the appeal of a rugged SUV from Jeep, and we sure have taken notice of the brand's products. The 2015 Jeep Patriot carries forward without any changes for the model year. Buyers generally perceive this car as an unreliable one and they cannot be blamed because it has reported 254 complaints and only 1 recall that manages to address its steering problem. All this is happening while the more serious problem of engine stalling is left unchecked, along with a few safety concerns. Prices start at an MSRP of $17,932 without options and there are numerous trim levels offered as well. The competition consists of cars like the Ford Escape, the Honda HR-V, and the Mazda CX-5. Read on to find out how Jeep Patriot problems have affected its owners in this particular year.
2015 Jeep Patriot User Complaints and Problems
Mechanical problems:
- A large number of owners have had problems in which the engine stalls and shuts down without any warning. This issue seems to apply to several models within the Jeep brand portfolio. It feels like the vehicle spotters and produces unnatural sounds. In some cars, the RPM almost goes to zero, and then it picks up again.
- Many owners have reported a grinding noise coming from the rear transfer case of the vehicle which might indicate a larger mechanical issue like a transmission failure. The 2015 Jeep Patriot transmission problems persist even after the system is replaced. There is a transmission overheating problem as well.
- The throttle control sensor is usually a part that gives out easily. However, its repair is quite expensive as the whole throttle body needs to be changed. The 2016 Jeep Patriot throttle body recall tried to address the problem but unfortunately, 2015 cars were left out.
- The steering system of this vehicle is a common culprit and can go out without warning while driving. This would make the car next to impossible to maneuver. Some of these issues could be due to a power steering hose clamp not being positioned correctly and was later covered in a recall.
- The list of Jeep Patriot engine problems does not seem to end and the cooling system is also prone to failure.
- Although rare, a few cars have had catalytic converter failures.
- Few complaints about the brake system have been reported including loud sounds as well as vacuum pump failures. The sound feels like something is screeching and causes wear and tear.
- A few owners have unfortunately experienced brake seizures or loss of control of the steering wheel while driving.
- Suspension problems are rare but ball joints, lower control arms, pinch bolts, etc. failing have taken place in a few cars.
Electrical system problems:
- Although quite rare, the car can hesitate to start with functions like the AC, clock, and so on being disabled. Other functions like rear window defoggers, and so on seem to stop functioning intermittently.
- The windshield wipers have several errors that prevent them from stopping even when the driver tries to or sometimes activates themselves on their own.
- TIPM failures are quite common as circuit buyers can corrode and damage them. This will result in the car not starting but no error code showing up according to diagnostics.
- Complete electrical shutdowns are not very uncommon in this car and this would result in loss of both brake and power steering assistance.
- Very few owners have been unfortunate enough to lose their cars completely to electrical fires.
- The crankshaft position sensor along with the accelerator position sensor needs to be replaced in some cars. 2015 Jeep Patriot crankshaft position sensor problems are showing up in more cars now.
- The electronic stability controls as well as the ABS system are prone to failure. The issue this assumed to be off the beach speed sensors.
Interior problems:
- The airbag springs can fail which will result in the horn being rendered un-functional. This can be due to metal fatigue.
- The driver-side headrest, which is a safety feature, can be deployed without any reason to do so. This has happened in many cars and during deployment, the hinge is usually damaged so it cannot be fixed back.
- The rear dome lights can leak water inside the cabin and damage electrical systems. Water leaks are also reported from the sunroof.
Safety problems:
- In many cases, the airbags do not deploy even been there are life-threatening accidents. Many owners have also reported airbag warning lights coming on as well.
- The seatbelt cam also has a complaint in which it locks up and fails to let out the seatbelt. In some cases, the seatbelt is unable to be released and needs to be cut off.
- The active head restraints can explode and cause trouble. This can sometimes happen while driving and hit a passenger in the back of their head.
Miscellaneous problems:
- There are a lot of complaints about the manufacturer failing to supply the parts correctly on time when there is an associated recall. Since most recalls are regarding safety concerns, this means owners have to drive an unsafe car till then.
Exterior problems:
- There have been a few complaints about headlights seals leaking and condensation building up, which causes electrical wires to corrode.
- The paint of the car has multiple quality issues including peeling.
- Many owners have also reported that the sunroof, windshield, etc. are prone to explosions. This happens even when there is no apparent impact.
- According to multiple users, the exterior turn signal sockets are faulty and can fail prematurely. It can go on and off without ever being operated.

Should you buy the 2015 Jeep Patriot?
The Jeep Patriot is a car that brings an easy entry point into the brand and promises some of that ruggedness the company is known for. Despite all this, however, it still reports a lot of issues that do not have an immediate solution. The problem with the active head restraints deploying inadvertently and the one with engine failures has affected a lot of owners who board their cars without their knowledge. With failures being catastrophic and expensive, we are not in a position where we could recommend this car to our readers over rivals like the Ford Escape. We feel that the car makes a better case for itself and has decent performance, more space inside, and a better safety quotient.
