... 2018 Honda RTL-T ridgeline January 3rd, 2018. In one week my truck developed ice build up inside the cap less gas tank. The ice blockage caused the outer plastic flap to burst and had to be removed by utilizing a hairdryer and screwdriver, not to mention the inconvenience of not being able to fill up on gas. August 13th, 2018, driving to work I noticed the engines RPMs were fluctuating drastically up in the 7000rpms range andRead More

... by the price. I put this in this post about quality issues. Around 80,000 miles the fuel injectors needed replacement. That the warranty did pay for for teh replacements but after reading several Honda forums I found out that this is a very common problem. Next is the wiring harness for the tail gate. When you use the tailgate there is a inherent wiring path problem. The tailgateRead More

I have the same problem with my brand new Ridgeline , no heat at idle . Dealer can't fix it , it must be to complicated for Honda to figure out . I use to think Honda was reliable ?

The 2018 Ridgeline is a Midsize Pickup-truck that does shine bright in terms of reliability. With a J.D.Power score of 80 out of 100 and iSeeCars giving it 8.6 out of 10, the Ridgeline places itself on the higher end of the reliability scale. Honda has managed to sell slightly more than 30,592 units, suggesting the vehicle has taken a fall as the sales were higher in the previous year. However, with 4 recalls and 100 complaints, the reliability is questionable as its rivals like the GMC Canyon, and the Chevrolet Colorado have all maintained a much more controlled amount of complaints and recalls. We would pick the 2018 Ridgeline over the previous year's model as it carried more recalls and complaints in comparison. The Honda Ridgeline from 2018 also seems to hold its value pretty well as it currently sells for an average of $26,499, which is a decent value considering it originally carried a sticker price of $29,730.

2018 Honda Ridgeline problems, and user complaints

Engine and Mechanical Complaints

  • FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM: Fuel pump problems are another frequent problem with the Honda Ridgeline. These pumps are found in the gas tank and can be harmed by rust or other problems. On the highway, the engine stalls and slows to a dangerous speed. The fuel system without a cap collects water and can freeze. This is a serious issue that may be costly to resolve.
  • SERVICE BRAKES: Some Honda Ridgeline owners have also revealed braking issues. These trucks have anti-lock brakes (ABS), but some people have reported problems. While stopped behind a truck making a left turn, the contact stated that the vehicle began to reverse and tapped his vehicle. The contact then consolidated onto the highway at 30 miles per hour and tried to apply the brakes, but the brake pedal did not function properly.

Safety Complaints

  • BACK OVER PREVENTION: The backup camera has stopped working. The wiring harness connecting the tailgate to the truck body is frayed and badly designed for the tailgate's fold-down and swing feature. This is on the left side, near the tailgate hinges. After researching the issue, I discovered that this is a frequent issue among Ridgeline owners, usually right after the warranty period has expired.

Dashboard

  • ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: The rearview camera failed due to damage to the wiring harness on the driver's side of the tailgate from normal use. Wires have been frayed/cut. Broken wire in the backup camera bundle as a result of poor design where the bundle ejects the tailgate and enters the left rear fender. Upon inspection, the wiring harness at the back gate pivot point had broken due to the gate being opened over time, causing the backup camera to be disabled - the display is now black when the vehicle is in reverse.

Hood May Open While Driving

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain Ridgeline SUVs manufactured between 2017 and 2020. The hood latch striker may be damaged and separate from the hood, causing the hood to open while driving.

Free of charge, dealers will repair the hood latch striker or replace the hood if necessary. Letters of notification to owners were mailed on January 18, 2022.

Tonneau Cover Panel May Detach from Vehicle

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling all Honda Genuine Accessory Tonneau Covers, part number 08Z07-T6Z-100F, sold for setup on Ridgeline trucks from 2017 to 2020. Wind resistance may cause the tonneau cover to flip and buckle if it is not properly secured in the open or closed position. If this happens, the hinges connecting the center and rear panels may deform, allowing the rear panel to separate from the vehicle.

Honda will notify all enrolled owners of 2017-2020 Honda Ridgelines, and dealers will install free tethers and warning labels on any Honda Genuine Accessory Tonneau Cover to protect panel separation. An updated accessory user's information manual will also be provided. The recall will begin on October 26, 2020.

Rivets that Secure Seats may Fail/FMVSS 207, 210

Certain 2018 Ridgeline vehicles are being recalled by Honda (American Honda Motor Co.). The Honda vehicles' front driver and passenger-powered seats, as well as the Acura vehicles' driver-powered seats, may have been assembled with improperly manufactured rivets. In the event of a collision, the rivets may break, resulting in the seats not being secured to the floor.

Honda will notify owners, and dealers will free of charge replace the driver seat frame assembly in Acura MDX vehicles, as well as the driver and front passenger seat slide rail frames in Honda Pilot and Ridgeline vehicles. The recall was initiated on May 30, 2018.

Should you buy a used 2018 Honda Ridgeline?

The well-known Honda truck is a class leader. The Honda Ridgeline is a fantastic midsize pickup with seamless, upmarket, and self-assured driving dynamics. The Honda Ridgeline was introduced to the marketplace in 2006 as a "sport utility truck." This type of truck is ideal for individuals who require a truck for light-duty duties but do not want the majority and poor fuel efficiency that full-size trucks provide. The common problems with Honda Ridgeline are fuel/propulsion systems, service brakes, backover prevention, and electrical systems. The 2018 Ridgeline has had problems with the collision warning systematic failure to function and the motion sensor struggling to function properly. The truck made a lot of noise, which some drivers discovered annoying. The rivals of the Honda Ridgeline are equally impressive but the Japanese model is a fairly reliable blend in the segment and hence, we would vouch for it.
