Being one of the smallest seven-seater crossover SUVs around, the 2020 GMC Acadia is great for people looking for affordable luxury. But its owners have been reporting GMC Acadia transmission problems and several quality issues. The manufacturer seems very committed given the fact that five recalls have been issued in such a short while. The Acadia is slightly more expensive than its competition, with a starting price of MSRP $30,995. It competes against the Kia Telluride, the  Hyundai Palisade, and the Mazda CX-9. Let us find out more about GMC Acadia issues through this article.

2020 GMC Acadia User Complaints and Problems

Mechanical problems:

  •   There are a few complaints about the auto start/stop mechanism. When stopped on an incline, the delay is so much that the car jerks forward.
  •   There are complaints regarding power steering failures. However, they sometimes get power assistance back when the car is restarted.
  •   Many owners have experienced problems with jerking, gears refusing to shift, and other problems that arise from the transmission including the GMC Acadia shift to park issue, in which the car shifts to Park while driving.
  •   A few owners have suffered from tire blowouts but GMC has addressed this through a recall.

 Electrical system problems:

  •   Many owners have had the infotainment system shutting off completely. Some cars also popped warnings for ABS, TC, and cruise control along with it.
  •   The rearview and surround cameras are a problem area for some people. It is hard to drive a car like this without those features.
  •   There was one complaint in which the owner has stated the fuel gauge shows the wrong readings and it is very hard to understand how much fuel is there in the car.

 Safety problems:

  •   One owner reported that the brakes are often applied independently without any driver input. This happens even when there is nothing in front of the vehicle.
  •   There was a report of an incident where a car was involved in a serious road accident, injuring the passenger and the airbag failed to deploy.
  •   In a bizarre accident, a car accelerated by itself and slammed into a wall without any driver input.
  •   One complainant stated that the driver side seat belt will not latch on until the process is repeated a few times and a squeaking noise appears while driving.

Should you buy the 2020 GMC Acadia?

The GMC Acadia is a decent car even though it has a heavy price tag. Its reliability is certainly not bad because the complaints have not been very large in number. The brand has also stayed committed to the car by issuing timely recalls and such. For this reason, it is a car we would consider in its tough segment despite the list of excellent competitors.
