I paid for the dealership to fix the leak a few months ago but just last week I went to the car wash and the leak is still there. The GMC Acadia offers a versatile and reliable drive that suits both the city commute and touring alike. However, the Acadia comes across issues ranging from brake failures to powertrain defects. Most of these issues relate to the electrical systems and electronics of the car. In summarizing, the GMC Acadia records 59 complaints and 2 recalls for the 2019 model year. As a mainstream franchise, GMC aftersales services are quick to resolve these concerns. The 2019 GMC Acadia also receives a 4-star safety rating. The SUV competes with the Mazda CX-9, the Toyota Highlander, and the Nissan Pathfinder. The GMC Acadia earns the 4th spot on the CarHp list of top 10 compact SUVs.

User Complaints and Problems

Mechanical Problems

  • Brakes - User complaints report cases of braking failures. The SUV fails to brake by depressing the brake pedal. This increases the chances of crashing.
  • Powertrain - The most common problem with the SUV is the powertrain malfunction. Even with the ‘park mode’ engaged, the car displays a ‘shift to park’ message. This requires the users to wait for a while before parking the vehicle.
  • Engine - Engine Stalling is common with GMC Acadia users. The SUV loses drive power under driving conditions. This increases the risk of rear-ended collisions. Droning in the engine compartment is also a known issue with the SUV. Users report droning sounds from the engine compartment under driving conditions. This can distract the driver.
  • Steering - Users report instances of power steering failure with the SUV. This results in a sudden loss of power steering functionality. Loss of steering control increases the chances of a crash.

Electrical Problems

  • Driver aids - The most common driver aid defect with the SUV is the Auto Emergency Braking malfunction. This results in abrupt and sharp braking without any user input. Sudden braking increases the chances of a crash.

Safety Problems

  • Airbags - Airbag defects are common with the SUV. Users report airbag deployment failure. An airbag failure in the event of a crash compromises user safety and increases the chances of an injury.

A tire failure may cause sudden loss of tire pressure and air.

Overcured tires may develop a crack in the sidewalls which can result in a sudden air loss or a belt edge separation that can lead to a belt/tread loss. Either of the conditions can cause a loss of vehicle control increasing the risk of a crash.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the tires, replacing them as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on March 22, 2021. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-888-988-7267, Buick customer service at 1-866-608-8080, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. Missing bolts of start/stop accumulator.

Missing bolts on the start/stop accumulator can result in a transmission oil leak and may progress to a loss of propulsion, increasing the risk of a crash. A transmission fluid leak in the presence of an ignition source may increase the risk of a fire.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the start-stop transmission accumulator and replace it if any bolts are missing, free of charge. The recall began on December 15, 2020. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-888-988-7267, Buick Customer service at 1-866-608-8080, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is N202313440.

Should you buy the 2019 GMC Acadia?

The GMC Acadia is a complete package with features, comfort, and performance for a budget. The mid-size SUV offers a versatile drive that suits both the city streets and the highways. However, the GMC Acadia comes across a fair share of user complaints and recalls. However, the GMC aftersales show a prompt response to resolve these issues. However, we highly recommend potential buyers to avoid previous model years due to reliability concerns. Despite coming across a wide range of problems, the 2019 GMC Acadia offers a returning investment for the budget. Hence, we approve the SUV with a go-ahead.
