Overview

The Chrysler Pacifica is the most awarded minivan for five years in a row. The 2022 Chrysler Pacifica strives to offer the same comfort, practicality, interior features and good driving manners. Powered by a V6 engine or a plug-in hybrid powertrain, it produces 287 hp while the hybrid version produces 260 hp. The conventional Pacifica can tow up to 3,600 pounds while carrying around 7 passengers with ease

The 2022 Chrysler Pacifica will be available in four trims: Touring, Touring L, Limited and Pinnacle. It will continue to offer very good cargo capacity and comfortable ride quality. It’s upscale interior and available AWD configuration makes it a favourite among the masses. The 2022 Pacifica will justify it’s higher base price with a better list of standard features. It will face competition from the likes of Kia Carnival, Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna

Buying Advice

We recommend going for the Limited trim as for under $50,000 you get an AWD setup with many added features over the base trim. Features like heated & ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, tri-pane sunroof, navigation, and premium leather-trimmed seats are justified for the premium you pay. And being a van these small nifty features makes it much more comfortable for you and your family while in the van.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

“The 2022 Chrysler Pacifica is a three-row minivan from the company that popularized the small family van more than three decades ago.“ - Edmunds

The Chrysler Pacifica has received many awards and accolades for many good reasons. The 2022 Chrysler Pacifica will offer comfortable seating for up to seven passengers across its three spacious rows. It can accommodate one more passenger but that will result in some discomfort over longer durations. It is also available in plug-in hybrid version for better efficiency (reviewed separately) and is expected at a starting MSRP of $36,500 for the conventional base trim.

The 2022 Chrysler Pacifica will be the same as the outgoing model with some minor updates. It will receive Amazon Fire TV support for trims equipped with an optional rear entertainment system. It will allow you to stream content from Prime Video to the both front and rear displays. The 2022 Pacifica will also feature an improved in-cabin air filtration system. With the addition of the new Silver Mist exterior color, there are seven exterior colors to choose from.

Buying Advice
8.5/10

We would recommend the Touring L trim as it features heated front seats, heated steering wheel, leather upholstery and some more optional features to make for a truly desirable minivan offering better value. The optional packages include rear seat entertainment with Fire TV support, premium audio system with higher output and upgraded driver-assistance features. The optional packages might be very expensive but they truly make the already good Touring L trim even better.

Features
8.5/10

The 2022 Chrysler Pacifica would be offered in four trims as last year with minor changes in the features list. The trim ladder goes like Touring, Touring L, Limited, and Pinnacle. The prices are expected to start at $36,500 for the Touring trim and go up to $55,700 for the Pinnacle AWD trim. The 2022 Chrysler Pacifica will get FWD configuration as standard while AWD will be optional. A 3.6-liter Pentastar VVT V6 engine producing 287 horsepower is standard across all trims.

Fuel Economy
7.0/10

Taking cue from the 2021 model, the 2022 Chrysler Pacifica is expected to deliver 19 MPG in the city, 28 MPG on the highway and 23 MPG in combined driving conditions. With a fuel tank capacity of 19 gallons, it can travel up to 437 miles on a full tank of gas in mixed conditions. With AWD configuration, the efficiency is expected to drop by 2-3 MPG.

The Toyota Sienna can be termed as the most fuel efficient minivan in the comparison. It comes with a hybrid powertrain and delivers much better gas mileage than other minivans. The Honda Odyssey, Chrysler Pacifica and Kia Carnival offer similar efficiency and have similarly sized fuel tanks as well. However, the Pacifica wins the range battle and comes second after the Toyota Sienna.

Interior
9.0/10

“Airy, spacious, and packed with cubbies, cupholders, slide-out bins, and connectivity, the Pacifica is big on the features that minivan buyers love.”- Car and Driver.

The 2022 Chrysler Pacifica gets a very upscale looking interior. The curves and the round edges give it a satisfying vibe to look at. With one of Pacifica's two new available integrated consoles, you have the option to choose here as well. The Pinnacle integrated ultra center console, one of the most functional in its class, seamlessly blends into the instrument panel with the transition assisted by two soft wings bordered with accent stitch.

It can accommodate seven passengers with ease. The seats offer decent comfort but the rear seats lack cushioning to make way for the ‘Stow’ and ‘Go’ feature. The rear seats can fold flat and fit inside the floor bins to make space for additional cargo. The Pinnacle trim gets quilted-leather upholstery and provides similar lumbar pillows for the second row captain chairs.

A striking caramel and piano black color theme, exclusive to the Pinnacle model, defines the interior. It will offer up to 32.3 cu-ft of cargo space behind the third row which is adequate but not the best. From Touring L trim itself, features like heated front seats, power-adjustable driver’s seat with 4-way lumbar support, perforated leather upholstery, heated steering wheel, etc.

Exterior
9.0/10

“By minivan standards, the 2022 Pacifica is downright sexy.”- The Car Connection

The 2022 Chrysler Pacifica will carry forward the exterior styling of the 2021 model. The front fascia will come with two sleek LED headlights with LED daytime running lamps and a small satin carbon grille with a Chrysler logo on it looks modern for a minivan. The front bumper houses two LED fog lamps and blends well with the minimalistic design of the front fascia

The side profile is similar to that of other minivans and gets chrome on window panes to lend it a more premium appeal. The rear profile gets a pair of beautiful LED tail lamps connected together via a LED strip and power tailgate that opens vertically with full access to the cargo area.

Safety
9.9/10

“The Pacifica adds to its safety standing by offering nearly every conceivable driver-assistance feature available today.”- Car and Driver

The 2022 Chrysler Pacifica is based on the 2021 model in terms of safety features as well. It offers 97 standard features and 14 new-as-standard safety features, including new LED lights and new PAEB. It also features a stronger metal body structure for A-pillar and B-pillar, along with something called the Passenger Side Small Offset Rigid Barrier (SORB).

The NHTSA has given it a five star safety rating in most tests while the IIHS has also tagged it as “Good” in six different test parameters. It also includes a wide array of driver-assistance features to make it one of the safest minivans in the segment while ensuring complete passenger safety. Some of the standout safety features are:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Lane keep assist
  • Blind spot monitoring
  • Rear-cross path detection system
  • Advanced brake assist
  • Forward collision warning
  • Lane departure Warning
  • Tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS)

Competition
8.0/10

2022 Chrysler Pacifica vs 2022 Honda Odyssey

Honda hasn’t tinkered much with the Odyssey over the years and tried to keep it as original as possible. Hence the overall recipe of the 2022 Odyssey is quite simple, but it has worked for Honda over the years. With a practical and easy-to-use interior, a strong V6 engine under the hood, with excellent road manners for which cars from Honda are known, the Odyssey has a different approach.

But as time passed by, it has started to become a little less relevant in the competition. A perfect example is a competition from the Pacifica which takes the edge due to the option of AWD drivetrain, and a plug-in hybrid variant, for the customers who need or want these features. On top of that, the Pacifica arguably has a vast array of modern tech and features, including a more up-to-date infotainment system.

2022 Chrysler Pacifica vs 2021 Toyota Sienna

With a bold and striking look from the outside, the 2021 Sienna delivers as to how it looks, sort of. Thanks to the standard hybrid powertrain it is significantly more efficient than Pacifica. But the unit does lack the punch, especially for a minivan as big as the Sienna.

The lack of power is very much evident, especially under full-load. But Sienna happens to be more spacious than the Pacifica which is a plus here. That said, apart from interior space, the Pacifica is a much superior offering between the two.

2022 Chrysler Pacifica vs 2022 Kia Carnival

The Kia Carnival happens to be almost similar to the Chrysler Pacifica except for the better cargo space it has compared to the Pacifica. What does take the matter into its favor is its competitive price which is around $3,000 less than the Chrysler.

That said, the Kia Carnival also gets exceptional safety ratings and comes with a host of features that makes it the toughest rival of the Pacifica here.

Final Verdict
9.0/10

The Chrysler Pacifica competes in a very niche segment of the market. A person going for a minivan has a vast array of expectations, and fulfilling all or most of them is no easy task. Chrysler has done a great job in keeping it up-to-date and relevant to the market. The 2022 Pacifica might be a carryover model, but the updated features will be enough to keep it competitive, at least for now. If you are planning on getting a new minivan, you can go for the 2022 Chrysler Pacifica without any hesitation.
