The 2020 Chrysler 300 is a fairly massive American luxury sedan with unmatched road presence, built with design cues from traditional muscle cars to rival European offerings. The 300 Badge was first introduced in 2005 to widespread appeal - the distinctive styling and imposing stance combined with a brilliant ride quality made it an outright success. Since then, Chrysler has managed to keep the model relevant with timely facelifts, feature upgrades, and variant additions.

There are a couple of engines to choose from – a 3.6L Pentastar V6 with 292 horsepower or a full-blown Hemi V8 with 363 horsepower. The 300 also has impressive body control and handling credentials with all of the power being sent to the rear wheels as standard. The voluminous cabin is equally exquisite - with soft-to-touch materials and an extensively configurable options list for interior finish.

2020 Chrysler 300 User Complaints and Problems

Engine and Mechanical Problems

  • Engine oil leak - Leakage of or excessive consumption of engine oil was a concern raised occasionally. Installation of new seals on the engine oil adapter or the filter was seen to solve this problem.
  • Transmission - In some instances, a clunking noise from the transmission was heard when the vehicle was started remotely. To fix this issue, the instruction given was to flash program the transmission control module with the latest available software. The same was advised for some issues concerning engine surge and cruise control operation.
  • Steering - An issue noticed by a few owners was an inability to control volume using the steering wheel controls.

Safety Problems

  • Driver assistance features - An unnecessary message requesting the driver to place both hands on the steering wheel was observed to be shown on the cluster display despite that already being the case. This was only noticed on vehicles equipped with lane departure warning (LDW) and was seen to happen when no steering torque input was applied for a significant amount of time.

Exterior Problems

  • Front fog lamps - Complaints about flickering, dim, or occasionally inoperative front LED fog lamps were raised. Close inspection of the connectors for water intrusion and corrosion was the corrective action prescribed.

Interior Problems

  • Windows - Few owners complained of inoperative driver or passenger side windows. Replacing the regulators or motors was not observed to resolve the matter.

Electrical Problems

  • Infotainment - Several owners raised issues regarding the intermittent black screen, and an unresponsive or frozen display when the radio function was being utilized. Concerns were expressed over the difficulty to link over Bluetooth, as well as occasions where Apple CarPlay failed to connect and was inoperable.
  • CAN communication faults - Some owners reported experiencing a no crank, no start condition of the vehicle. On further investigation, improper seating of an inline connector was seen to cause the CAN bus communication fault which led to the vehicle not starting up.
  • Faulty keyless start - Multiple instances of the vehicle failing to start despite repeated pressing of the push-to-start button were observed.

Miscellaneous

  • Warning light - A kinked or improperly routed evaporative emission control system (EVAP) purge line was seen to result in the malfunction indicator lamp being illuminated.
  • Tire pressure lamp - There have been a few reports of the cluster tire pressure warning bulb being turned on without any problems with the tires. The cause was determined to be proximity to aftermarket equipment or electrical devices near the wheels.

Inadequate Windshield Bonding

A windshield that is not securely bonded to the vehicle will tend to detach in the event of a crash, increasing the likelihood of an injury. A non-conforming paint clear coat was found to be the reason for inadequate front windshield adhesion to the vehicle body.

Removal and replacement of the front windshield urethane sealant will be carried out by the dealers at no extra cost. Notification letters were mailed to owners on August 31, 2021.

Should you buy the 2020 Chrysler 300?

The 2020 Chrysler 300 is a hefty, muscular rear-wheel drive sedan of sizable proportions. This translates to plenty of space in the opulent and well-equipped cabin. The use of plush, excellent-quality materials on the interior panels and seats contributes to raising the overall fit and finish of the car. Although the basic formula for this sedan was set over a decade ago, the incorporation of new-age driver assistance technologies as well as the choice of two engines increases its appeal. The automatic transmission is seamless and despite the fairly obvious weight, manages to propel the vehicle at a respectable pace. Combine all of this with commendable reliability reports and the 2020 Chrysler 300 can be confidently recommended for purchase for all those looking for genuine satisfaction in an iconic American luxury sedan.
