... phone. A white screen means that the cameras aren't working, so you must turn off the car and restart it to fix it. A blue screen means that the MMI has crashed; it will not fix itself (even if you turn off the car), you must hold down the thumb wheel for ~20 seconds to reboot the MMI. The blue screen has only happened to me once, the others are common.Read More

2021 Audi Q5 has a MAJOR design flaw and a SIGNFICANT SAFETY ISSUE that Audi is fully aware of, doesn’t have a fix yet, so haven’t issued a recall or informed exiting owners. What’s worse is that they are still selling the car without disclosing the problem to prospective owners. If you or yourRead More

The 2021 Audi Q5 may look a little less appealing than its competitors but is an incredibly practical luxury crossover SUV. In terms of reliability, its reputation is quite good because it only reported 25 complaints along with 4 recalls. However, many complaints have been serious issues associated with the gateway control module and Audi has promptly issued a recall regarding the same.

In terms of the warranty package offered, the 2021 Q5 has an average coverage with both the Basic and the Powertrain warranty limited to just 4 years or 50,000 miles. Prices start at $43,300 without options and its competition consists of the BMW X3, the Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class, and the Porsche Macan.

2021 Audi Q5 User Complaints and Problems

Mechanical problems:

  1. One contact had an engine failure along with the Audi Q5 engine light indicated in the driver information display. The vehicle was diagnosed with an ECM chip failure and it was repaired. However, the problems did not go away completely.
  2. There was one brake problem reported about the car. The brake booster seems to fail because the pedal goes completely down to the floor and has caused several accidents.

Electrical system problems:

  1. Several owners have reported that while driving, the vehicle shut off its electrical system completely. There are also several warning lights asking the owner to contact a dealer and many malfunctions can occur. These are the faults with the gateway control module that is covered in the recall. This is the most frequently reported one among Audi Q5 common problems.
  2. Some complainants have raised the issue of the backup camera not working randomly while the MMI screen also goes completely blank. Many owners have also complained that the bird’s eye view camera is completely skewed.

Exterior problems:

  1. Multiple owners have reported Audi Q5 panoramic sunroof problems. The issue is that the sunroof of the car explodes without any apparent impact.

Miscellaneous problems:

  1. Many complaints have been regarding the fact that the manufacturer has exceeded a reasonable amount of time to fix the problems. This has been reported by multiple people who are affected by recalls.

Safety problems:

  1. Several owners have raised complaints about the Pre-Sense auto braking and braking alert jolt have been activating without the need for them. The same applies to the cruise control system in the vehicle which is notably error-prone.

Should you buy the 2021 Audi Q5?

The Audi Q5 is one of the favorites in the segment because it serves as a great family car. The design is timeless, the interiors are of great quality, it is feature-loaded, and also reliable. However, at the same time, the manufacturer has been proactive in fixing issues associated with the car. This can be seen even if we take the Audi Q5 coolant leak recall of recent times. We would include the Audi Q5 in our recommendations for the best cars to buy in 2021.
