Overview

The 2019 Tesla Model S redefines premium car ownership. From innovative technology to tailor your ride to personal preferences such as drive, powertrain, or enhanced Autopilot features, every Model S is the ultimate expression of engineering excellence and clean technology. The 2019 Tesla Model S offers a longer-range battery, and all-wheel drive capability—but those aren't the only upgrades the automaker has made to its luxury EV sedan.

Buying Advice

Our recommendation would be the base Standard Range because you will get all the same equipment as other pricier versions and a great range of 285 miles. While the Model S Performance is without doubt insane, you'll have to decide if it's worth it based on how much acceleration you really need. You definitely should opt for the Enhanced Autopilot option regardless of which trim you get.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The new 2019 Tesla Model S is a clean slate, designed and engineered from the ground up as an electric vehicle. It has more range, more power, more acceleration and more passenger and cargo space than its predecessor. Thanks to a new platform and body architecture, the Tesla Model S offers a smooth ride with agility, precision and control. It rivals the likes of Lexus LS 500h, Porsche Panamera e-Hybrid and BMW 740e Xdrive iPerformance

Features
8.0/10

Tesla offers three model S trims for the 2019 model year. They differ primarily in their operating range and acceleration times. A 100-kWh battery is standard for all models, as well as all-wheel drive. With the entry-level, standard range trim, you can drive 285 miles on a single charge, but upgrading it to the Long Range trim will allow you to drive 370 miles on a single charge. Model S Performance offers a range between 325 and 345 miles.

The 2019 Tesla Model S comes standard with front and rear heated seats, a heated steering wheel, 12-way power adjustable front seats, navigation, a Wi-Fi hot spot, voice recognition, an 11-speaker stereo, satellite radio, and automatic climate control. Additionally, every Model S comes with features such as Tesla Autopilot and advanced driver assistance systems, such as forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and a rearview camera.

Engine and Performance
8.0/10

The 100-kWh battery pack and dual-motor all-wheel drive feature in all 2019 models of the Tesla Model S sedan. There is, essentially, one Model S, which buyers can then upgrade to get more performance or range. Regardless of model, all models provide phenomenal performance that will have you thrown back into your seat every time you press the throttle.

It's possible to increase acceleration slightly while accelerating wear on the battery and electric motors by using Ludicrous Plus on the Performance Model S with Ludicrous Mode. Its Dual Induction Electric Motors give the Tesla Model S its speed and power advantage over most of its rivals. The Tesla Model S reaches 0-60 mph in 4.2 seconds and quarter mile in 10.7 seconds.

How well does the 2019 Tesla Model S handle?

A unique chassis design, suspension and steering systems work in unison to provide a luxurious ride on the 2019 Tesla Model S. The car boasts excellent handling and incredibly sticky summer performance tires for exceptional grip. The immediate pedal response also aids corner-carving. A vehicle of this weight should be boring, but it's not. The instantaneous electric power makes driving the Tesla Model S a breeze. This car has one of the best adaptive cruise controls on the market.

2019 Tesla Model S Braking Performance

The Tesla Model S Sedan has exceptional braking performance as well. Using a regenerative braking system, the vehicle decelerates smoothly under routine conditions, and panic braking is fast, short, and consistent. The pedal feel of this electric vehicle is more predictable than that of some other electric vehicles.

The Porsche Panamera e-Hybrid has a combined fuel efficiency of 22 mpg, which is far below its rivals. With its excellent range, the Model S continues to be the best.

Interior
7.0/10

The interior of the 2019 Tesla Model S is modern with a high-tech feel, yet keeping minimalism to the core. The car has ample legroom for tall passengers, and spacious headroom, even in the second row. It’s extremely quiet inside even on longer trips. In addition to spacious seating front and rear, our expansive glass roof provides a beautiful view of the sky overhead—perfect for admiring the stars above at night.

Featuring a large windshield that drops all the way to the base of the car, the interior is spacious with plenty of legroom for tall passengers. It has twice as much cargo capacity as most sports cars, yet can comfortably fit five adults or six children. A new steering wheel, ambient lighting and updated media interface communicate effortless elegance while providing new ways to customize your Tesla experience.

Comparatively, all three sedans can seat five passengers, while the Porsche Panamera e-Hybrid is limited to four passengers with a tight rear space. Also, the Model S provides excellent seating comfort with its standard leatherette. In addition, both the front and rear seats are ventilated, which is not the case with either the BMW or the Lexus, which are only equipped with this technology for the front seats. Porsche will come up with a functional and comfortable cabin experience even though we do not yet know its exact dimensions/statistics. However, the BMW offers a spacious interior and the best leg room in its class. Some of the noteworthy interior features of the 2019 Tesla Model S include:

  • Heated front and rear seats
  • Heated steering wheel
  • 12-way power-adjustable front seats

7.0/10

The sleek, sculpted lines of the 2019 Tesla Model S set the tone for its performance. 2019 Tesla Model S vs 2019 Lexus LS 500h

Both the 2019 Tesla Model S and 2019 Lexus LS 500h are electric vehicles with a range of more than 250 miles on a single charge. LS is priced at $79,510, while the Tesla is listed at $76,200. As a comparison of the two cars, the Tesla Model is remarkably fun to drive, while the Lexus LS500h is comfortable and quiet. The LS 500h is built on a legacy of luxury. Its compelling performance of nearly 350 horsepower and its beautiful exterior make it an impressive car to drive. The sleek electric powertrain of the Tesla Model S brings you a remarkable driving experience.

2019 Tesla Model S vs 2019 BMW 740e Xdrive iPerformance

Tesla Model S is undoubtedly the coolest car on the US market that can compete with its German competitors in almost every aspect. Yet it faces stiff competition from a newcomer: the 2019 BMW 740e Xdrive iPerformance. The 2019 BMW 740e xDrive iPerformance is a plug-in hybrid luxury sedan that offers strong acceleration and the performance of an electric motor, paired with excellent fuel economy. Power and range are both class-leading features of the Tesla Model S. Similarly impressive is the 740 e iPerformance hybrid version, which features 322 horsepower and impressive fuel efficiency. The Model S, however, boasts a lower price tag than the BMW, making it the more value-for-money option.

2019 Tesla Model S vs 2019 Porsche Panamera e-Hybrid

Porsche Panamera e-Hybrid and Tesla Model S are two of the fastest full-size luxury sedans in the world today, but if you compare the specs of these vehicles, it becomes clear that they have very different approaches to electric vehicles. Panamera e-Hybrid is Porsche's hybrid sports sedan that can reach 60 mph mark in just 4.4 seconds. Porsche's e-Hybrid Panamera provides excellent performance and has more elegance than a traditional luxury sedan. Neither the Tesla Model S nor Porsche Panamera e-Hybrid is easy to ignore. However, the Porsche costs you $102,900, which may seem steep, but it provides excellent handling and a great driving experience.

Final Verdict

The 2019 Tesla Model S is a car capable of making anyone a true EV enthusiast. Power at the push of a pedal, now and in the future. The Model S is engineered to be the safest, most exhilarating sedan on the planet. This all-electric performance vehicle pushes the boundaries of automotive design, sustainability, and technology.
