They indicated that they had no idea what the problem was or how to fix it and they were " at the mercy" of Porsche technicians. The 2022 Porsche Taycan is an all-electric luxury sports sedan that boasts impressive performance, cutting-edge technology, and a sleek, modern design. It was first introduced in 2019 and competes with the likes of the 2022 Audi RS E-Tron GT and Tesla Model S.

The 2022 Taycan has received a JD power rating of 73 which is a quite decent score. Coming to the complaints, the NHTSA portal has recorded a total of 40 complaints and a recall. Commonly faced issues by the customers include sudden power loss, automatic shift to neutral or park while driving and blacking out of the LED panel, just to name a few. Porsche cars are always praised for their elegance and class but will the Taycan be able to continue its legacy in terms of reliability? Time to find out…

2022 Porsche Taycan User Complaints and Problems

Engine and Mechanical Problems

  • Engine - On several incidents, the vehicle is reported to shift itself into neutral or hold automatically. The contacts have claimed it to be quite unsafe and unsettling.
  • Brakes - A different amount of pressure was needed to apply to the break when at lower speeds compared to higher speeds. At lower speeds there was less responsiveness to the breaks and more pressure was required to stop the car. Even after some inspections, the problem persisted and the vehicle kept showing ‘break fluid low’.
  • Powertrain - The vehicle is reported to lose all the power suddenly. It wouldn’t move faster than 5MPH. After a while, the vehicle is reported to be normal but it happened again after some time.
  • Steering - While in reverse gear, the power steering assist would lose all power and the vehicle couldn’t be turned anyway.

Safety Problems

  • Rearview camera - Rear camera view would be distorted while backing up. This wouldn’t let the driver safely see behind you when driving.

Electrical Problems

  • Warning lights - While losing sudden power, a small turtle sign would appear on the MID and couldn’t be decoded what it stands for.
  • Infotainment - The display is one LED unified panel and it would go dark, losing its ability to function while the car is in motion. The driver would be forced to lean forward and adjust/reset the panel which could be near fatal if other passengers are not present.
  • Battery issues - The 12V battery got discharged despite being continuously driven. When replaced and repaired,
  • Climate control - The heating system would stop working and wouldn’t heat up the cabin. Also, it would cease to defog/defrost the windshield, making the car unsafe to drive.

Vehicle Display Malfunction

A software error could cause the center screen (including the rearview camera image) and the touch control panel remain to black directly after the ignition is activated. Also, the Real-Top-View (including the rearview camera image) could display a flickering image. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."

Dealers will install new software, free of charge. Owners will be notified through mail.

Should you buy the 2022 Porsche Taycan?

The 2022 Porsche Taycan is, undoubtedly, an astonishing vehicle with a fine blend of performance, comfort, and sustainability. The issues mentioned above do raise questions on the reliability of the vehicle and issues may even prove fatal in some situations. It is strongly advised to all potential customers to look for the stated problems, especially the display LED, and the shift in brake power and effort. Thus, if these issues are resolved in future updates then surely one can go for it.
