... affect numerous Muranos). The car's bluetooth system does not appear to turn on and no phone can be connected to the system. The dealership continues to say the bluetooth is functioning fine blaming it on my phone despite the fact that no phone can be connected to the system AT ALL. They have actually seen the vehicle not allowing ANY phone to be connected and continue to refuse to fix it. At 10K milesRead More

In the midsize SUV market, the 2017 Nissan Murano remains largely unchanged. It continues to be made available with a standard V6 unit, an aesthetically designed cabin that bestows ample space, and a potent list of features. However, it does add some driver-assistance specifications and Apple CarPlay functionality in the current iteration. It competes against the likes of the Subaru Outback, the Jeep Grand Cherokee, and the Ford Edge. While most of its rivals offer a similar set of strengths, the SUV holds a stick in the segment with its reliability. It has 74 complaints listed to its name and has been recalled thrice by the brand. However, compared to its sales units, the statistics seem diminutive. What are the 2017 Murano complaints and what are the implications on the ownership experience? Let’s find out.

2017 Nissan Murano User Complaints and Problems

Safety System Complaints

  • Issues with the airbag system: The airbag system of the 2017 Murano has three distinct issues. These include problems like non-deployment, illumination of a service warning light, and the inability of the airbag to deflate after deployment. Each of these complaints has a single recurrence and chances are they might not affect your vehicle.

Electric System Complaints

  • Obstruction of front radar sensors: The Nissan Murano electrical issues deal with the failure of the front sensors to detect a chance of a crash due to obstruction. A warning message is displayed on the information screen and is followed by the disabling of the Automatic Emergency Braking system and Cruise Control. In some other cases, the Forward Collision-Avoidance functionality has falsely identified a risk of a crash and activated the emergency braking system to bring the vehicle to a halt.

Mechanical Complaints

  • Problems with the transmission unit: The 2017 Nissan Murano transmission issues are not widespread. Yet, some buyers have reported the vehicle to shift hard between gears. This results in the RPMs increasing significantly, which can have a bearing on the SUV’s overall performance.
  • Acceleration failure: In the list of the 2017 Nissan Murano complaints, buyers of the midsize SUV have also reported the vehicle’s inability to accelerate despite the pedal being depressed. This results in the RPMs increasing significantly, without a corresponding increase in the speed.
  • Steering system failure: In some cases, buyers of the 2017 Nissan Murano have reported the steering wheel freezing, unexpectedly. As a result, the vehicle cannot be correctly controlled as the steering wheel cannot be turned. In another case, the power steering assistance has also failed, followed by a warning message.

Structural Problems

  • Explosion of the sunroof: The most common recurrence in the list of the 2017 Nissan Murano issues relates to the shattering of the sunroof glass. Without impact or incidence, buyers have reported the sunroof exploding. No injuries have yet been reported due to the problem.

Miscellaneous Problems

  • Compromised visibility: Due to glare from the hood and the chrome surrounding the side view mirrors, occupants have also complained about compromised vision and visibility.

Should you buy the 2017 Nissan Murano?

The Nissan Murano has consistently ranked appreciably in our list of midsize SUVs. Thanks to its practicality and affordability, it caters to the needs of most of the buyers in the segment. So, from the point of view of functionality, it promises top-notch performance. But what about reliability? Unsurprisingly, the results seem no different. Though there are three recalls, all of which deal with a single issue, Nissan’s proactiveness comes to the buyers’ rescue. So, yes, you should buy the Japanese SUV if you are satisfied with it, after your due diligence.
