GMC’s new Hummer EV has officially begun production and is set to roll off the assembly lines by the end of March. It has already generated huge interest, with approximately 90,000 reservations already in place for production, covering the time frames of 2023 and 2024. The Hummer EV is a direct challenge to Tesla’s Cybertruck and Ford's F-150 Lightning, with the company even including an Easter egg image of a Hummer crushing a Cybertruck.
The Hamtramck plant, which is dedicated to producing only electric vehicles, will build both body styles of the Hummer and offer a full color palette. Although production was slow last year due to supply shortages of semiconductor chips and battery cells, it is expected to pick up speed in the second half of the year.
There are 90,000 reservations for the Hummer EV, and filling them will require the brand to keep operating well into 2024, according to GM executive vice president Duncan Aldred. The GMC Sierra EV electric full-size pickup is set to start production in early 2024 for a launch a year later.
The Hummers use more batteries than any other vehicle offered by GM, in some cases, the same number of batteries used in a Hummer could power two other vehicles. As the brand slowly converts to electric-only, the Sierra HD will be the last nameplate to go fully electric as 95 percent of buyers use it to tow.
More power, More sustainable & More expensive
The Hummer EV is equipped with a state-of-the-art Ultium battery system, providing a range of over 300 miles on a single charge. It also features GMC's new four-motor e4WD system, delivering unparalleled all-terrain capabilities and off-road performance. With instant torque and a top speed of 110 mph, the Hummer EV is designed for drivers who seek the ultimate in power and capability.

In addition to its impressive performance, the Hummer EV is also designed with sustainability in mind. It features an innovative air management system that helps to reduce drag and increase efficiency, resulting in a more efficient vehicle that requires less energy to operate. The Hummer EV also features an eco-friendly interior that is made from sustainable materials, including recycled plastics and organic cotton.
The 2024 GMC Hummer EV is expected to hit the market with a starting price of $84,650 for the base model while the top-end 3X variant will cost $104,650, making it one of the most premium electric trucks on the market as well as making other similar Electric SUVs more appealing to consumers because of their approachable price tag.

In conclusion, the GMC Hummer EV is creating a lot of buzz and has already generated massive interest, with all the models slated for production already claimed. The Hummer EV is a direct challenge to Tesla’s Cybertruck and Ford's F-150 Lightning and is expected to hit the roads by the end of March. GMC has a full lineup of electric vehicles and is dedicated to producing only electric vehicles in the future.
