The Neue Klasse X concept, which will most probably be released as the second-generation iX3, gives us a glimpse of BMW’s future.
The Vision Neue Klasse X Concept Debuts With 800V Architecture

BMW unveiled its Vision Neue Klasse concept car last year which happened to be an all-electric sedan. Deriving its design and body language from the concept car, the newly unveiled BMW Vision Neue Klasse X gives us a glimpse at what BMW will look like in the future. After the Neue Klasse, the Klasses X is the second EV out of the six that is built on the Neue Klasse platform.

“Together with the BMW Vision Neue Klasse, the BMW Vision Neue Klasse X showcases the breadth of our future BMW model line-up. The Neue Klasse reflects the variety of all the models that customers want today and in the future – from a sporty sedan, with all its derivatives, to the modern SAV family,” says Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG.

Talking about the design, BMW finally got rid of those giant front grilles that almost everyone complains about. Instead, now it gets a smaller kidney grille in front inspired by the original Neue Klasse sedan from the ’60s. The ground clearance and the wheelbase are also increased along with larger windows. Moving on, BMW is also set to introduce “super-brains” which will be EV-specific software. Instead of each system being controlled by its own ECU, it will be replaced by the ‘super-brain’ which is said to have 10 times the computing power of a conventional ECU.

As of now, there are no details on the drivetrain or range figures but the Neue Klasse X is confirmed to be utilizing BMW’s eDrive tech and will get an 800-volt architecture for charging. With production set to begin in Hungary, it will likely be released next year.
