A wireless EV charger does not solve any problems and that is what Tesla believed until now. Over the years, Tesla has preferred plug-in charging for better time and efficiency. However, last year Tesla shared an image of its wireless home charging station without any comments. Moreover, some owners discovered a web page in Cybertruck’s pickup manual that mentions an “Inductive Charger”.
As per speculation, the connector on the truck’s traction battery might be used as a wireless charger. While Tesla has not confirmed any news yet on the “Inductive Charger”, its chief designer has confirmed that the automaker is indeed working on the wireless technology which will be present for Cybertruck and other models. Moreover, some fans have theorized that this feature might be available as an add-on.
Tesla probably started working on its wireless charging technology when it acquired the German company Wiferion in 2023. This wireless charging start-up was sold only a few months after but Tesla might have retained some of its engineers. As for the wireless charging, chief designer Franz von Holzhausen confirmed the news on Jay Leno’s garage, stating “Oh, we're working on inductive charging. So you don't even need to plug something in at that point. You just pull in your garage, drive over the pad, and you're charging.”
So far, there have been no announcements for Cybertruck’s wireless charging but it will solve a few issues with a regular charging port including damage, reliability, and accessibility. Stay tuned for further updates.
