The life cycle assessment of Volvo EX30 suggests that it’s the greenest electric vehicle to come from Volvo to date.
The EX30 Has The Lowest Carbon Footprint Of Any Volvo EV

In a recent press release by Volvo, the automaker claimed its EX30 to have the lowest carbon footprint of any fully electric vehicle produced by Volvo. This claim comes from the life cycle assessment (LCA) of the Volvo EX30 in which the report suggests that the EV has a total carbon footprint of 1 ton / 5400 miles. This makes the EX30 have 60 percent less carbon footprint than the XC40 ICE.

“Transitioning to electric cars is key to limiting climate change, but increased transparency about its challenges is needed to reduce their emissions even further,” says Jonas Otterheim, head of climate action at Volvo Cars. “By studying the EX30’s carbon footprint and identifying its primary materials and processes, we aim to provide valuable insights that can help guide decisions in our company towards becoming more sustainable, as well as amongst the wider industry.”

To achieve such eco-friendliness, the EX30 uses recycled materials quite significantly. The proportion of recycled material used in the EX30 is the highest of any Volvo car ever, using around 17% of recycled plastic. Moreover, Volvo’s initiative allows for the EX30 to have a reduced “cradle-to-gate" impact to an estimated 14.8 tonnes. Additionally, Volvo is also working towards reducing emissions with a goal in mind that aims to reduce 20 percent emissions from manufacturing the LFP battery by 2025.

Volvo has conducted LCA’s on three of its electric cars which include the Volvo EX40, EC40, and the EX30. The LCA reports for these cars have also been made public to help customers make informed decisions.
