When living in a crowded city, cars like the Kia Rio become a blessing. Its stellar fuel economy saves gas station trips and subcompact dimensions allow you to navigate through dreadful traffic easily.

However, this budget-friendly car from the iconic “Affordable Trio” which includes the Nissan Versa and the Mitsubishi Mirage is being discontinued after 2023. Yes, the Kia Rio will no longer return for the 2024 model year. Kia sold 16,554 Rio models in July 2023, which is 2% less than in the same month the previous year.

The cheap affordable subcompact sedan segment will once again shrink. In 2022, we bid farewell to the Hyundai Accent, and this year, the Rio 4-door sedan and Rio 5-door hatchback will be enjoying their final run.

Meanwhile, the Mitsubishi Mirage is also expected to be taken off the production line in late 2025. The Mirage G4 Sedan and the Mirage Hatchback will be no more models. That leaves, the Versan sedan as the only surviving member among the cheapest new cars for 2023 which costs less than $20,000 and will continue living beyond 2024. However, the 2024 Nissan Versa has not been officially announced yet. On a side note, you can check out other cars that are coming back for 2024 in the US. Let us give you a peek. The Nissan Maxima sedan is in the list.

Since the Rio will no longer be in the market after 2023, the cheapest entry model from Kia will be the Forte which belongs to the compact sedan segment. That being said, the 2025 Kia K3 is a new small sedan that has been recently made available in some of the non-US markets.
There is a possibility that the K3 can come as a replacement for the Rio and the Forte models in the future. However, it will not be as expensive as the other two cars from Kia. The new K3 will be well over $20,000. The 2023 Kia Rio sedan costs $16,750 whereas the hatchback is priced at $17,690.
