The charging infrastructure is one of the biggest issues, that manufacturers and consumers are together facing which is limiting the scope of using the vehicle. To correct that, seven major car manufacturers including Honda, BMW, Mercedes, GM, Stellantis, Hyundai, and Kia are collaborating to solve the issues with the installation of 30,000 charging stations across the States.
Electrifying Merge Between Seven Automakers to Solve EV Charging Problem In 2024

As every automobile manufacturer on the face of the earth is going electric, a huge infrastructure problem needs to be considered. Although these cars are perfect for city use and daily commutes, however, the problem starts when you plan a little bit extra than that. Since the beginning of the electric era, there has been a prominent hindrance, charging time to get to roads again, and also the infrastructure is still not ready for it if you are planning to munch extra miles.

However, if we look at it from a broad perspective, the implementation of the technology is still young and we still have time to mature. With that said several manufacturers are collaboratively working on making a sustainable charging infrastructure to solve the current issue in the industry.

Some of the biggest manufacturers naming, Honda, BMW, GM, Mercedes, Hyundai, Kia, and Stellanits are merging forces to create a network of 30,000 new fast-charging stations across North America. The sources say that the merger will install their first chargers in the summer of 2024, and will further expand in the Canadian region afterward. We have seen some previous collaborations such as Tesla and Ford collab, Toyota teaming up with ChargePoint, and Volvo partnering with Starbucks and Tesla to facilitate charging for the users.

These charging networks are said to be compatible with vehicles that use both the Combined Charging System (CCS) and Tesla’s proprietary North America Charging Standard (NACS). To keep things sorted and take advantage of these about-to-be-added stations, many manufacturers are pledging to use the NACS connectors in their future offerings. Volkswagen Group’s Electrifying America subsidiary and ChargePoint have also going to adopt the NACS in the coming future.

There is still no information on what this massive joint venture will be officially called, or when the whole infrastructure of 30,000 chargers will be completed. However, the manufacturers have confirmed that the stations will be installing these charging stations in urban areas and along the highways. These stations will feature multiple DC fast charging points and the “Flagship Stations” will have additional amenities that you can use while your vehicle is charging. The automakers have also stated that they will work on an integrated network, with manufacturer’s apps and navigation functions that will allow the customers to plan their route accordingly, with charging reservation, and payment functions to make the whole process effortless for the user. The initiative will greatly benefit the whole EV charging situation in the USA and further encourage more people to add an EV in their garage.
