Volvo has finally revealed its new flagship electric SUV, the 2024 EX90. The Swedish company had previously teased the electric replacement for the XC90 multiple times this year before finally showing it off to the public on their November 9 reveal event.
According to the company, the three-row EX90 has two models, and both of them come with the same dual-motor powertrain but with different power outputs. Exact pricing for the 2024 Volvo EX90 hasn’t been announced yet, but Volvo says you can expect it to cost under $80,000. It will go on sale in the US in early 2024.
Power Output and Performance Figures for the Volvo EX90
The 2024 Volvo EX90 will be available in two trim levels: base and performance. Both of them come with a dual-motor drivetrain that will drive all four wheels.
The base trim has a power output of 402 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque, while the Performance version comes with 496 horsepower and 671 pound-feet of torque.
The base trim can go from 0 to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds, while the Performance trim can do the same in 4.7 seconds.

Range and Charging Capability of the 2024 Volvo EX90
The battery in the EX90 has a usable capacity of 107.0 kWh and a target range of up to 300 miles. It operates on a 400-volt design. The EX90 will be able to charge from 10% to 80% with a 250 kWh connection in around 30 minutes. Additionally, Plug and Charge will be included with the vehicle for automatic payment at charging stations.

The 2024 EX90 also comes with bi-directional charging capability, which allows the EV’s battery to power your home in the event of a power outage or to sell any excess energy generated during peak hours back to the grid.
Volvo will sell the required home hookup and energy management software, but it is unclear in which markets we will see this capacity.
The battery size, motor torque, and even the ability to charge in both directions are all similar to those of the recently introduced Polestar 3.

Safety Features available on the 2024 EX90
The EX90 promises to be "safer than any Volvo car before it." One of the ways it ensures safety is through a camera system installed inside the car. The level of awareness of the pilot is determined by two cameras pointed at the driver and a sensor in the steering wheel.
The technology can stop the car by the side of the road and turn on the warning lights if the driver has lost consciousness.

Another safety system is the in-car radar system that can be used to detect whether a child or pet has been left in the car. The system can show a reminder, stop you from locking the doors, and activate the climate control system to maintain a pleasant temperature if it detects a youngster or pet.
The vehicle also comes equipped with Volvo's Pilot Assist system, which expands on its existing lane-centering feature by adding the ability to change lanes. Additionally, the EX90 will be equipped with "unsupervised driving" gear in the future.
How does the 2024 Volvo EX90 look on the outside?

The exterior design of the 2024 Volvo EX90 is based on the Concept Recharge that was shown by the company a year ago. One thing that is different is that the EX90 has an SUV-like shape and proportions as opposed to the Concept's more wagon-like, lower-roof appearance.

The 22-inch wheels feature distinct wheel-cover inserts to facilitate airflow; the grille-less front end is rounded; and the door handles and window glass are flush with the body-side surface. The lidar sensors for the vehicle are located in a hump at the forward edge of the roof and will be used for eventual self-driving capabilities. All of this is done to achieve the claimed drag coefficient of 0.29.
A look at the 2024 Volvo EX90 interior
The Polestar 3 and the Volvo EX90 share a lot of the same interior styling. A sizable, vertically oriented center touchscreen serves as the dashboard's main interface. A smaller screen that serves as a digital instrument cluster in front of the driver shows speed and range, as well as a graphic of the vehicle and nearby traffic.

Nearly all physical buttons and knobs are forbidden. The exception is a sizable volume knob on the center console; a column stalk is used for gear selection.
Volvo makes an effort to make using the huge, 14.5-inch central touchscreen simpler by displaying different functionalities on the home page depending on whether the car is in park or in motion and if a phone call or audio is currently playing.

The infotainment system in the EX90 is Google-based, just like in modern Volvos, but it also wirelessly supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The EX90 will include standard smartphone-as-key functionality, among other technological highlights. Dolby Atmos technology will be used in the top audio system by Bowers & Wilkins, which will also have 25 speakers throughout the vehicle, including the headrests.

Pricing and Availability of 2024 Volvo EX90
The 2024 Volvo EX90 price hasn’t been announced yet by the company, but according to Volvo, the starting price will be under $80,000. The car won’t go on sale until early 2024; however, customers can pre-order their vehicles now and then confirm their EX90 specifications in the fall of 2023.
Once released, it will compete against the likes of other full-electric SUVs like the Polestar 3, BMW iX, and Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV.
The EX90 will be available for purchase or lease, as well as through the company's Care by Volvo subscription program.

The 2024 EX90 will be built alongside the Polestar 3 in Ridgeville, South Carolina, for the American market. And prior to finally replacing the XC90, the vehicle will be sold alongside the current XC90 at the top of the Swedish manufacturer's lineup.
The EX90 is also the first in a line of Volvo electric vehicles, with the firm announcing plans to release one new electric model annually.
