The Triton midsize pickup is also marketed as L200 from Mitsubishi. Its last full redesign was done in 2015 that started the 5th generation Triton. However, after waiting for so long, the L200 has finally received updates from wheels up. That said, the 2024 Mitsubishi Triton will come in three different cab styles: double cab, club cab, and single cab.
The new Mitsubishi truck now has 65% additional cross-sectional area, 40% higher bending rigidity, and an increased torsional rigidity of 60 percent. The Japanese automaker has also decided to use more high-tensile steel which makes the L200 lighter compared to the previous generation model.
Mitsubishi says that the new Triton Pickup truck is beefier, stronger, more practical and more reliable. As far as exterior constructional changes are concerned, the cargo bed height is 32.28 inches or 820 mm which is 45 mm or 1.77 inches lower than the older model. Unlike before, the bumper corner now has a reinforced frame that can serve as a foot space.
Beast Mode design language

There is no denying that the sixth-gen Triton looks more aggressive and tougher than its predecessor. The front end has an imposing appeal that instantly catches the eye. It is due to what Mitsubishi likes to call “Dynamic Shield” that makes the midsize pickup truck truly robust. You get L-shaped LED daytime running light and split headlights that are accompanying the big grille on the front side of the truck.
On the side profile, tightly stretched overhanging fender panels give the Triton its polished look. Come to the back end and T-shaped tail lights are ready to greet you. Meanwhile, there are six exterior colors to choose from. You can Yamabuki Orange Metallic which is an attention seeker or get the Triton painted in Jet Black Mica to give it a classic look. At the same time, buyers can have the Blade Silver Metallic, White Diamond, Graphite Gray Metallic, and Solid White as well.

Peek in the cabin

A thoughtful interior design with a functional arrangement compliments the overall practicality of the Mitsubishi L200 and enhances comfort. In the era of minimalism where everything is controlled by a touchscreen, Mitsubishi has decided to keep physical controls which is not a bad thing. In the cabin, the “Horizontal Axis concept” has been used that allows better back support from seats and increases outward visibility during driving.
The infotainment system with two rotary knobs on each side of the screen has been borrowed from the Outlander SUV. Furthermore, soft-touch materials are used on various cabin elements and features like wireless charging are also on offer.
The powertrain and drivetrain improvements

A new 2.4L Inline-4 diesel engine with the latest turbocharger is hidden under the hood which provides 3 different power outputs. The standard output is 148 horsepower (110 kilowatts) and 330 Nm (243 lb-ft). It can be increased to 181 hp (135 kW) and 430 Nm (316 lb-ft). For more power, the consumers can get the 201 hp (150 kW) and 470 Nm (347 lb-ft) engine configuration.
The engine comes with either a 6-speed automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual transmission. Additionally, the 2024 L200 midsize truck is equipped with Super Select 4WD-II and Easy Select 4WD systems. The former comes with a lockable center differential and a Limited Slip Differential (LSD) which sends 40% of power to the front and 60% to the rear wheels.
The Triton with Super Select 4WD-II system can run with 2H (RWD), 4H (4x4), 4HLc (4x4 with a locked center differential), and 4LLc (low-range with locked center differential) modes. Moreover, there are driving modes such as Normal, Eco, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Sand, and Rock. Having said that, you can fill up to 19.8 gallons of fuel in the all-new Triton.
The 2024 Mitsubishi L200 has not ignored safety either. It has many driving aids such as adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert, forward collision mitigation system, and blind spot warning with lane change assist.
The 2024 Mitsubishi L200/Triton is already being sold in Thailand. Mitsubishi plans to introduce its midsize truck for the first time in 12 years in Japan in early 2024. However, before that ASEAN and Oceania will have the new Triton truck on sale.
As far as the US market is concerned, we are still not certain if Mitsubishi will sell its brand new pickup to the US buyers. Afterall, the big giant obstacle known as chicken tax will make it difficult to attract buyers. However, it is still a risky move for a brand with already small market share.
There are reports that Nissan could help Mitsubishi in its truck sales in the US, no matter how small. Although, the future will tell the tale. Having said that, if the Triton does come to the USA, it will go against the Ford Ranger. Besides this, outside the US, the Triton also rivals the Toyota Hilux.
