The 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed has got some interesting debuts. Maserati launched its Ghibli And Levante Ultima Special Editions with final V8 engines. However, one of the main highlights is the introduction of the 2024 Ioniq 5 N.
The new performance-oriented Ioniq 5 is set to start a new era as it became the first EV to have a simulated 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. From 641 horsepower output to the revised battery pack, there is so much more to uncover.
Powertrain
There are a few precedents that the new Ioniq 5 N have them. Apart from the introduction of the N e-Shift which mimics an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, it is also the most powerful Hyundai production model. The 2024 Ioniq 5 N is powered by two electric motors which 601 horsepower and 545 lb-ft of torque.
You need N Grin Boost to unlock the true potential of the Ioniq 5 and get an output of 641 horsepower and 567 lb-ft of torque. However, it is short-lived fun. Since the N Grin Boost can be activated for only 10 seconds for now.
Meanwhile, a battery pack of 84.0 kWh capacity is used instead of the 77.4 kWh battery available in the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5. The charging is quick too. In just 18 minutes, you can charge the Ioniq 5 N from 10 percent to 80 percent. This rapid charging is enabled by 800-volt technology. That being said, the EPA range figures are not available yet. We expect the 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N to have an electric range of 220 miles.
N e-shift
The 2025 Ioniq 5 N started a revolution with simulated gear shifting. With its new N e-shift system that copies the working of an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, it has shunned the critics of EVs who complained about not having the old-school feeling when they drive electric cars.
Basically, the motor’s torque is controlled. According to Hyundai, this new system basically “simulates the jolting feeling between shifts”. The Ioniq 5 N accelerates when its upshifts and Downshifts are rev-matched. All of this is done with the assistance of a speaker that delivers gear-shifting noise as pops and bangs.
As a result, you feel like you are driving an ICE car. Furthermore, the Torque Kick Drift function through N Drift Optimizer allows the Ioniq 5 N to copy the clutch kick action that is found in rear-wheel drive cars.

Track performance and modes
In the N Grin Boost, 2024 5 N Grin Boost can do 0-60 MPH in 3.4 seconds. However, we believe that Hyundai is being modest. After all, the Kia EV6 GT with 576 horsepower was able to cross the 60 MPH mark in 3.1 seconds. Moreover, the 5 N has a top speed of 161 MPH.
The 2024 Ioniq 5 N runs on 21-inch wheels with Pirelli P-Zero tires. It has front 15.7-inch rotors with four-piston calipers and 14.2-inch rotors at the rear are grabbed by single-piston calipers. Additionally, the N Brake Regen system in the 2025 Ioniq 5 N SUV can provide up to 0.6 g of deceleration force which is limited to 0.2 g when the ABS is in use. Additionally, for steady cool air flow, brake-specific brake cooling ducts are also given.
For better performance and more precision on the road, Hyundai has completely revamped the revised suspension setup from the regular Ioniq 5. The improved regenerative braking system, new steering rack, different aerodynamic elements, and more allow the Ioniq 5 N to shine on the track. Its cornering capability gets improved because of these features which allow drivers to take sharper turns without any issues.

Meanwhile, just like other EVs, the 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N SUV also has different driving modes. So that the battery and the performance are optimized as per drivers. There are several modes on offer. There is one mode for drag racing and the other one is for track-focused driving. In the former mode, you get a boost of total powertrain output but for a short amount of time. Don’t confuse it with the N Grin Boost.
For more laps, the Track mode can optimize the battery temperature. As per Hyundai, Endurance mode can “maximizes range on the racetrack” which is done by restricting the maximum power output and by a few other tricks. The objective of the Sprint mode is to give power and maximize performance. Hence, It offers “shorter bursts of full energy”. Furthermore, with the N Launch Control, you can get access to different traction levels. That being said, two battery preconditioning modes are also available.
Soundtracks and software
When we talk about EVs and their driving ability, other than instant acceleration and humming sound nothing else comes to mind. However, the new Hyundai N car is changing how EVs and their performance is perceived. The 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N features 3 synthetic soundtracks which are played by N Active Sound + system which includes 8 internal and two external speakers.
It allows drivers to experience and feel the same as if they were sitting in an aggressive high-performance gas-engine car. Drivers have full freedom to adjust the sound profiles. The Hyundai Elantra N and Kona N’s 2.0-liter turbocharged engine sound is copied for ignition. The Supersonic sound mimics a twin-engine fighter jet whereas the Evolution sound theme comes from RN22e.
Design and Dimensions

Compared to the 2023 Ioniq 5, the upcoming N model is bigger in size. It is around 3 inches longer, close to 4 inches wider, and nearly 1 inch taller than the outgoing compact electric SUV.
Hyundai has not revealed its curb weight yet. However, to get some sense, the current Ioniq 5 SUV weighs a minimum of 3,968 lbs when the base trim with rear-wheel drive is selected. The all-wheel-drive system increases the curb weight to 4,663 lbs.
If you look at the front, the lip spoiler on the lower part of the bumper is apparent. A functional mesh air curtain and active air flaps are also worth the attention. Furthermore, the bumper, side skirts, and rear diffuser are highlighted by N-exclusive Luminous Orange. That being said, N Performance Blue Matte and N Performance Blue exterior colors are reserved for the 2024 Ioniq 5 N SUV. Consumers can also select from other 8 exterior paint choices which include Ecotronic Grey, Atlas White Matte, and more.

When you step inside the cabin, it feels just like any other performance ICE. The cabin features N bucket seats, N steering wheel with four buttons, e-shift and N Pedal function paddles, and a lot of microsuede coverings. Hyundai has designed the cabin meticulously. The full-length center console comes with knee pads, shin support, and a sliding armrest. Unlike the exterior, there are no themes to go through for the interior. Buyers will only get black cabin with Performance Blue accents.
So let us get to the main question. How much does the new Ioniq 5 N SUV cost? The price range will be coming out soon. We believe it will start around $70,000.
