Overview
Cars like the 2011 Lexus GS 450h might not be able to give you the direct benefits one might expect from its hybrid powertrain. However, its usefulness must not be overlooked. The GS 450h uses its 3.5L gasoline V6 engine and two electric motors powered by a nickel-metal hydride battery pack to produce 340 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque. This gives the GS 450h a 0-60 of 5.2 seconds. The hybrid engine here is to support the gasoline engine to boost performance and offer slightly better fuel economy than what a single gasoline engine would be capable of. That said, the GS 450h achieves a combined fuel economy of 23 MPG. As part of the midsize sedan, the GS 450h competes only with the more affordable and smaller Lincoln MKZ Hybrid. Similarly, buyers can opt-in for indirect rivals with more affordable price tags such as the Ford Fusion Hybrid and the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. It offers one trim, starting off at an MSRP of $58,950.
