... is reminiscent of a vehicle from 2000, the lcd screen looks horrible and barely has any features or control over it. The gas mileage is abysmal, I do about a 50/50 mix of highway/city and I have never exceeded 15.5MPG! My last car was a large four door sedan that weighed almost 1500lbs more and was from 2004 but it got around 19MPG. TheRead More

... did not apply it to Q40 for some reason. I am in the progress of negotiation with Infiniti regional affair manager now. Infiniti remains to claim it’s the normal noise, and because it not the defect on any part of the vehicle, they cannot repair it or give a full refund as I requested, neither the compensation to the health damage on me. With no concern on the fact that this noise already caused severe and permanent health damage to the customer, InfinitiRead More

Introduced as the rebadged variant of the Infiniti G37, the 2015 Q40 has been introduced with the aim to capture an augmenting market. While it adheres to the segment requirements of comfort, performance, and ergonomics, the luxury compact sedan fails to bestow a similar level of opulence as its competitors. Nonetheless, considering its slight cost advantage and a high degree of reliability allow the Japanese vehicle to provide a decent value for the money spent. Compared to its 8,500 units of sales, the Q40 records just 6 complaints. It has no pending investigations listed to its name and is yet to be called back by the brand. Most of its issues are concerned with the airbag system, while there are a couple of niggles reported on trusted unofficial forums. The 2015 Infiniti Q40 price starts at around $35,000 and it competes with the likes of the Audi A4, the BMW 3-Series, and the Acura TLX.

2015 Infiniti Q40 User Complaints and Problems

Safety Complaints

  • Illumination of airbag warning light: Among the 2015 Infiniti Q40 common problems, buyers have reported the passenger airbag light illuminating randomly. As soon as the light is turned on, the passenger airbag turns off and might not deploy in case of a crash. While no reason for the issue is yet known, a malfunctioning of the Occupant Classification System (OCS) can be attributed as a possible cause of concern.

Electric System Complaints

  • Malfunctioning of the VDC: In one reported case, a buyer of the 2015 Infiniti Q40 reported the auto hydroplane correct function increasing the loss of control over the vehicle. The complainant had reported the VDC light flickering, which was followed by the vehicle hydroplaning and hitting a guardrail. Fortunately, no injuries had been reported.

Mechanical Complaints

  • Issues with the transmission unit: The 2015 Infiniti Q40 transmission problems have been listed on trusted alternate platforms. In some cases, buyers have reported a delay in shifting between the gears, which causes the vehicle to hesitate while performing. Additionally, it has also been noted that the transmission tends to skip and slip through gears, and as a result, users might not be able to extract the intended performance.
  • Vehicle rolls away: In one listed case, a buyer of the 2015 Infiniti Q40 reported that despite the emergency brake being activated, the vehicle rolled away when it was parked on a slope. No diagnostics were run on the vehicle and there is no further information available on NHTSA.

Miscellaneous Complaints

  • Excessive noise: Due to the vehicle’s high-pitched noise, which the brand mentions as normal, a buyer has reported developing troubles while hearing. The complainant has been diagnosed with Tinnitus, however, we would refrain from making a judgment about the issue in the absence of complete information.

Should you buy the 2015 Infiniti Q40?

In terms of practicality and functionalism, the Infiniti Q40 scales the ranks of success. In its debut and possibly only iteration, the luxury compact sedan manages to check most of the bells and whistles you would typically expect in the segment. It is sturdily built, comes with a unique set of features, and as is typical to most options from Infiniti, it cleverly manages cargo and passenger space. So, at a price lower than its competitors, the Q40 is a sweet deal. However, what about reliability? Well, the verdict seems no different. With only a diminutive number of 2015 Q40 problems registered to its name and no recall, the sedan remains rather hassle-free. However, our only concern is its after-market service, since the sedan might not be available in the next year. Consequently, we suggest buyers keep a lookout for the 2015 BMW 3-Seriesas well.
