Mechanical Problems
- Engine piston ring failure-. Several owners noticed the Honda Odyssey suddenly losing power due to the failure of piston rings resulting in complete catastrophic engine failure, some users barely dodged an accident. The dealership was helpful in some situations.
- Powertrain torque converter issue – The Odyssey has an issue with the torque converter causing the transmission to slip gears mainly between 20-65 mph speeds as per the reports of the users. This issue also causes the vehicle to shake and vibrate while driving. Some were unable to fix it while others had to pay it from their own pockets to fix it.
- Steering causing discomfort – Multiple users are noticing a clicking sound while turning and they are also having trouble with the steering wheel vibrating on applying brakes, this is the result of a faulty Steering Column, as per the mechanics that inspected the vehicle.
- Brakes not functioning – The brakes on the Odyssey seem to be numb or even nonfunctional at times for some users, this has also caused a user to hit a wall while trying to park.
Electrical Problems
- Electrical system – The Honda Odyssey has issues with the rear hatch not opening, The electric sliding Doors are not operational sometimes with one particular incident of a user not being able to get passengers out during an accident. There also is a problem with the ECU malfunctioning causing the vehicle to shut down completely in the middle of driving causing it to nearly crash, this issue also includes having all sorts of check lights being turned on the dash, and sometimes even the power steering gets jammed making it hard for the user to turn the vehicle.
- Vehicle speed control – Problems with the ECU make the 2016 Odyssey accelerate while braking and turning left simultaneously for a user and another user has crashed into their house after the car starts accelerating by itself on putting it to park causing the airbags to deploy which resulted in the owner being injured, this issue is also noticed by a second user who crashed into their garage.

Should you buy the 2016 Honda Odyssey
The 2016 Honda Odyssey is a class favorite for a reason. Every vehicle has its issues and the Honda Odyssey is no different, but when you compare the number of problems to the 100,000 or so sales, it doesn’t seem so much. Nonetheless, ensure especially that the vehicle you're going to purchase is inspected for the recalls made, especially for the fuel tank and the seat issues. Ensure that the engine and electrical system are fine and intact and there is no potential for problems as mentioned earlier. Although, In terms of problems, the 2016 Toyota Sienna seems to be better than the Honda Minivan, with fewer complaints.
