... This car is not what it is cracked up to be. The components are cheaply made and the car is good for about 3 years. Many of the interior has faded (even with tint) and the plastic scratches even if you lightly run something across it. Shame on you Honda for letting this piece of garbage go to marketRead More

Minivans are not the most stylish options when it comes to transport solutions but they are very practical. The 2015 Honda Odyssey is a van that is loved by many families due to its good set of powertrains and longest of convenience features. Its sliding door mechanism has reported a few complaints, along with a few engine and electrical problems. However, the total number of complaints is about 137. The manufacturer has responded with 4 recalls. It competes against the Dodge Grand Caravan, the Ford Flex, and the Toyota Sienna with prices for the Honda starting at an MSRP of $29,875. Let us see what we can learn about the Honda Odyssey problems through this article.

2015 Honda Odyssey User Complaints and Problems

Mechanical problems:

  1. The brakes of this car have reported many failures in which they go completely down to the floor without any action.
  2. The engine of the car has reported multiple problems including oil contamination into the spark plug, misfires, and so on.
  3. There have been a few 2015 Honda Odyssey transmission problems reported in which the system fails completely or refuses to shift and hesitates while choosing gear. The shifting also becomes increasingly rough in many vehicles.
  4. The spool valves can leak oil into the alternator, causing the battery to shut off. This can result in the car decelerating very quickly.
  5. Many cars have reported that the idle becomes increasingly rough and the engine vibrates too much. There must have been a 2015 Honda Odyssey misfire recall.
  6. There are many complaints about the steering wheel vibrating while braking. Steering can also produce abnormal clicking sounds and become difficult to return, signifying a lack of power assistance.
  7. Many owners have faced problems with the gasoline smell inside the car. There were no leaks found but the smell persisted.
  8. The brakes of the car produce a grinding sound when the rotors get hot which also compromised braking performance. A few owners have also reported a cracking noise while braking.
  9. The steering wheel jerking from left to right has been noted as a common issue and many owners have complained about it.

Electrical system problems:

  1. The rear-view camera as well as the side view mirror cameras failed to display images in many cars. It is one of the common 2015 Honda Odyssey electrical problems.
  2. The sliding door power mechanism fails in many cars, causing the door to be stuck in the open position.
  3. The keyless ignition system in this car also is prone to malfunctions and will result in a vehicle not starting. The issue can also be due to battery malfunctions which are also common.
  4. Some cars have gone up in flames due to electrical faults.
  5. There have been instances in which the car had a complete electrical shut down and had to be restarted to resume operation.
  6. The security alarm going off without any apparent reason is a common fault.
  7. The vehicle dynamic control, lane departure warning, and forward-collision warning have failed simultaneously in multiple cars and have not recovered.
  8. The wiring harness also uses soy-based insulation which causes rodents to chew and destroy the wires.
  9. The tire pressure monitoring system was also known to produce error warnings even when the tires are filled up to adequate pressure.
  10. The instrument cluster of this car does not manage to light up the gauges properly.

Exterior problems:

  1. A few owners have reported that the rear windshield exploded while the car was not subject to any impact from the outside. The same also applies to the sunroof.
  2. The headlights of this car have received several complaints including not being bright enough and that the illuminated area is very small.
  3. Many owners have stated that the paint of this car peels which indicates a major quality control issue.
  4. The tailgate latching mechanism also produces issues, especially during cold climates. 2015 Honda Odyssey power tailgate problems are very common.

Safety problems:

  1. A few owners have reported problems about the airbags not deploying correctly and thus causing injury. They either deploy explosively or deploy prematurely.
  2. An airbag warning comes on for some vehicles and indicates a manufacturing problem.
  3. There have been multiple incidents in which the airbags failed to deploy during an accident and failed to prevent injury.
  4. A few owners have had problems with the cruise control as well as the braking system of the car. The car lurches forward with a sudden jolt and goes out of control in situations where the braking system should be engaged.
  5. The seatbelts of this car have problems with the latch as well as the retractor.
  6. The seats of the car can move in place and will lead to the passenger not being adequately secured while braking or turning. However, the manufacturer has issued a recall regarding the same problem.

Should you buy the 2015 Honda Odyssey?

The Honda Odyssey is a decent pick but the reliability problems have not lived up to the reputation created by Honda. However, you will find the manufacturer has tried to recall and fix as many issues as possible and hence it wouldn’t be the most unreliable car either. In reality, it is a practical car that offers nearly everything buyers in the segment want.
