Honda brought in the Crosstour wagon to challenge the popular Toyota Venza but the former never truly took off and the current model year marks the end of it. Even though the Crosstour has been clocking dismal sales figures it has seen complaints and recalls too. The previous year’s model saw 25 complaints and three recalls whereas the current model has seen 15 complaints and three recalls, a slight improvement. Despite the low sales numbers, the number of complaints seen by the 2015 Crosstour indicates an absence of any major reliability issues. Among the complaints, the electrical system issues account for the maximum of them followed by the rest of the areas such as powertrain and safety aspects. The Crosstour competes against the Toyota Venza and the Subaru Outback in its class.
Honda Crosstour user complaints and problems
Engine problems
- Engine refusing to start: Several complaints mention this issue with the 2015 Honda Crosstour. The owners report that while starting their vehicles, the engine would refuse to start and make a grinding noise. The issue occurs on a regular basis but happens intermittently for some owners. Some owners had to jump start their vehicles because of the failure. A faulty starter motor was found to be the reason behind the issue and requires replacements.
Electrical problems
- Infotainment system issues: One owner complains about issues with his Honda Crosstour’s infotainment system. The complaint states that before the vehicle completed 37,000 miles, the infotainment system started to develop issues such as it will blink out, and restarting automatically. Sometimes the screen becomes non-functional while the owner is attending a call through the system and the camera displays would also fail. In some instances, the entire Bluetooth option would disappear from the system, and deleting all the paired devices would restore the functionality.
Safety problems
- FCW system malfunction: A single owner reports an issue with the forward-collision warning system of the Crosstour. The owner mentions that the instrument cluster would show a warning sign stating that the FCW system has been disabled. The issue resolved itself after the vehicle was restarted. The exact reason behind the issue is unknown.
Miscellaneous problems
- Paint peeling issue: One owner has faced this issue with his 2015 Honda Crosstour. The report states that at first, the paint on the roof started to bubble up and the dealership repainted only the affected area. Soon after that, the paint on the rear hatch started to peel off and was also repainted.
- Premature wearing of tires: The affected owner complains that the tires on his vehicle wore off much sooner than normal. Even after a full replacement of all the tires, they were completely worn after 20,000 miles of driving.

Should you buy a used Honda Crosstour?
The Honda Crosstour is best suited for those who want a wagon with the driving dynamics, space, and comfort of a sedan. The Crosstour disappoints slightly in terms of cargo capacity and exterior styling though. Since the vehicle is all set to be discontinued after the current model year, getting a used example might seem like a good idea if you wish to have an unconventional-looking vehicle from Honda that is also practical. While going for a used model, make sure to look out for the starter motor issue.
