Overview
Buick’s new compact semi-luxury SUV from last year, the Encore GX has found it a bit hard to carve its niche in the segment. This year, Buick is hoping to boost sales by making the packages more interesting by offering standard features like SiriusXM satellite radio, wireless Apple Carplay, and Android Auto across the range. The base preferred trim also now gets optional adaptive cruise control tech as a part of a revised safety package.
The 2021 Buick encore GX comes in the same three standard trim levels as last year, each offered with two powertrain options. A 1.2L, 3-cylinder putting out 137hp that has been coupled to a CVT comes in as the standard option while a higher output 1.3L, 3-cylinder mill coupled with a 9-speed automatic comes in as an option. The former powertrain option only comes in a front-wheel-driven configuration while the latter comes only in AWD format. The base price for the 1.2 turbo starts from around $24,200 while the same trim with the 1.3 turbo engine will cost you $26,200. At this price range, the 2020 Buick encore GX will be going against the likes of popular compact SUVs like the Hyundai Kona, the Honda HR-V, and the Mazda CX-3.
