Overview

The 2012 BMW 6 Series Coupe is a midsize Coupe offered in 2 trims, starting off at a base MSRP of $73,600. For that price, it mainly competes with more expensive rivals such as the Jaguar XK Coupe and the Porsche 911 Carrera S Coupe. Meanwhile, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe is also a potential rival which has the lowest price tag but the highest power figures among the bunch. Between 2 trims, the BMW 6 Series Coupe offers 2 powertrains. The base engine is a 3.0L Turbo Inline-6 capable of making 315 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. If more power is required, there is also a 400 horsepower-making 4.4L Turbo V8 engine. The former engine has a default 8-speed automatic transmission whereas the latter gets a choice between a 6-speed manual transmission and an 8-speed automatic transmission. The 6 Series Coupe reaches 60 mph from zero in 5.5 seconds on its base engine, which gets pumped up to 4.7 to 4.9 seconds with the 4.4 Turbo V8 engine. Depending on the powertrain, the BMW 6 Series Coupe can manage a combined fuel economy between 19 and 26 mpg. While we're on the topic of choices, the 16 striking colors the BMW 6 Series Coupe comes in really pull you towards itself.

Buying Advice

The 650i costs $9,400 more than the base 640i but apart from the V8 engine, it doesn’t add a lot of features. Unless you are thirsty for higher engine output, we recommend getting the 640i that hides an Inline-6 engine with the Luxury Seating Package and the Driver Assistance Package.
