Overview

The 2024 X7 is the brand’s three-row SUV in BMW’s fleet which is the brand’s most expensive and the largest SUV. The vehicle falls under the luxury fullsize SUV segment, which was announced for the first time in 2014 and then was officially released on the market on October 17th, 2018. BMW first came up with the X7 at the 2017 International Motor Show that took place in Frankfurt as the Concept X7 iPerformance. The vehicle comes with a luxurious interior along with voguish touches, other than that the SUV is feature-filled and the exterior also gives a dominating and bold-ish look.

The 2024 model of the X7 comes with 3 trims: the xDrive40i, the M60i, and the XB7, the xDrive40i is the base trim of the vehicle and it comes with a price of $81,900 and goes up to $150,395 on the highest trim. The base model comes with a 3-liter TwinPower Turbocharged Hybrid Inline-6 engine that produces around 375 horsepower redlining at 6250 rpm and 398 pound-feet of torque redlining at 5000 rpm. This big SUV is not the fastest one in its segment but is a fast one in general.

The Bimmer got a new refresh back in 2023, so there aren’t any new things that will be coming in the 2024 model other than BMW Crystal Headlights with Swarovski Crystals and other newly added features. The X7 is like a jack of all trades as it provides most of the desirable things such as power, performance, and features. Also, the SUV is quite fuel-efficient it has the best fuel economy among most of its competitors. The X7 goes head to head against the 2023 Mercedes Benz GLS, the 2024 Lincoln Navigator, and the 2023 Cadillac Escalade.

Buying Advice

Among all the three trims that are offered for the X7, we recommend the xDrive40i trim which is the base trim, the xDrive40i comes for $81,900. The price of it is quite okay when compared to its rivals. Other than that this trim also comes with an array of features, functions, and amenities such as 21-inch wheels, a 14.9-inch driver information display, automatic 4-zone climate control, sky lounge panoramic roof, and many more. Also the interior features premium leather upholstery. So if you have a big budget and would a good amount of power and features then going for the base trim is simply going to be the right choice.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The BMW X7 is the largest and the costliest SUV in BMW’s line-up, it comes along with a list of tech and safety features. The new model does not highlight any changes as the model before it received a big refresh. The 2024 model comes with a beautiful, spacious, and elegant interior along with that the exterior of the BMW SUV gives a very dominating and bold look with a touch of aggressiveness. There are three powertrains offered for the three trims of the vehicle and all of the engines are hybrid ones, also the SUV comes with All-Wheel-Drive as standard for all the trims. Overall calling the X7 a jack of all trades won’t be a mistake as it covers up all the aspects which many of its rivals lack, also the base model is more affordable and comes with more standard features in comparison.

Features

This Bimmer comes in three trims: the xDrive40i comes for $81,900, the M60i comes for $109,695, and the XB7 trim comes for $150,395. All of the X7 trims come with a peppy hybrid engine. Other than that all the trims even including the base one provide tons of features and functionality. The base trim comes with 21-inch wheels, 22 and 23-inch are available but only for the M60i and XB7 trims respectively. Many features are available both as standard or optional some of the standard key features found in the base trim are DOHC, a driver seat with adjustable lumbar support, Bluetooth wireless technology, new crystal headlights, a 12.3-inch infotainment display, a 14.9-inch driver’s display unit, and many more. Overall the 2024 X7 is a very impressive vehicle in terms of tech and basic features and functionality, also somewhat cheaper than a few of its competitors, and also the base trim is stuffed with tons of features.

Engine and Performance
7.5/10

The 2024 model of the BMW X7 comes equipped with a 3-liter TwinPower Turbocharged Hybrid Inline-6 engine that along with its 8-speed automatic transmission produces around 375 hp redlining at 6250 rpm and 398 lb-ft of torque. The engine delivers power to all four of the X7’s wheels equally. Even though this Bimmer is a large SUV the engine under its hood takes it from 0-60 within 5.6 seconds and goes up to 155 mph. This SUV might not be the fastest in its segment but earns quite a respectable position because of the power and performance it delivers. And not just this powertrain all the other two powertrains provided with the vehicle are quite potent and refined. So overall the Bimmer comes with a quite potent engine and gives a tough fight to its competitors.

In terms of power and performance, the BMW X7 offers a range of excellent hybrid engines, the base engine that we are talking about takes the Bimmer from 0-60 in just 5.6 seconds and has a top speed of 155 mph. In the second position comes the Mercedes Benz GLS which has the slowest 0-60 but goes to 133mph which is quite respectable, it goes from 0-60 in 5.9 seconds. Now in third position comes the Lincoln Navigator which comes with a potent V6 engine that drives the vehicle from 0-60 within 5.3 seconds and reaches a top speed of 125 mph. And in last, position is the Cadillac Escalade which is the slowest among the four vehicles in terms of 0-60 but not by a big margin, also it has a respectable top speed, it goes from 0-60 mph within 5.8 seconds

2024 BMW X7 Ride and Handling

The X7 offers an excellent riding experience all thanks to the air suspensions that come as standard in the 2024 model, other than that the large 21-inch wheels that come with the base model easily go over bumps and potholes offering a very comfortable riding experience with a minimal amount of jerking. Also, the big size of the vehicle does not exactly mean that it is not fun to ride, it comes with a responsive steering wheel, and the access to adjusting its height also allows the vehicle to make easy entries, exits, loadings, and unloadings. So driving it anywhere is not a problem also to compare its comfortability it can provide as soft and smooth rides as the Merc. So overall the X7 is quite an all-in-one vehicle that delivers a very good riding and handling experience for its size.

2024 BMW X7 Braking Performance

The Bimmer delivers good braking performance just like its previous model, mostly because of the brakes that it comes with. The brakes are quite easy to adjust and bring the X7 to a complete stop smoothly. The size of the brakes and the braking performance is still not available as BMW has not revealed it yet but as the 2024 X7 is just going to come with minor tweaks the brakes rotors are expected to be the same however nothing regarding that can be confirmed as of now. As far as we know the front and rear brakes are going to be ventilated disc brakes just like last year. Also, the SUV is going to come with a long list of features that will enhance the already good braking power. Some of the braking features that it comes with either as standard or as optional are Automatic emergency braking, ABS, adaptive cruise control, and many more. Overall the X7 stops as smoothly as it drives and the powerful and confident brakes are sure to save the vehicle from any mishaps that could happen anytime while on the road.

In terms of brakes and braking features, The Cadillac Escalade first position as its large brake rotors provide smooth and responsive braking and stop the vehicle quickly. It comes with lots of features to enhance the braking of the vehicle. In second position comes the BMW X7 which has been known and is still known for its smooth and stiff braking over the years, it delivers tight and responsive stopping power that stops the Bimmer quickly. Now in third position is the Mercedes Benz GLS which also provides tight and one of the most responsive brakes and comes with an adequate amount of features to justify its position. And last comes the Lincoln Navigator which is also good at braking and provides an adequate amount of braking power but falls behind the other four midsize SUVs.

Fuel Economy
7.5/10

The BMW X7 for its size and segment delivers excellent fuel economy, and also it has an excellent driving range, which is one of the best in its segment. However, the fuel tank capacity of the large SUV is nowhere as good as its competitors and that affects the driving range of the Bimmer. The fuel economy can range from 21 MPG when you're navigating through the city to 25 MPG when you’re driving through the highway and 22 MPG when you’re doing a bit of both. Also, the driving range ranges from 459.90 miles in the city to 547.50 miles on the highway and 481.8 when you’re driving through both. Overall the X7 for its size is quite a fuel-efficient SUV and also earns a respectable position in its segment because of that.

Competition

2024 BMW X7 vs. 2023 Mercedes Benz GLS

Both the BMW X7 and the Mercedes Benz GLS fall under the fullsize SUV segment that offers tons of features and luxurious amenities. The BMW X7 starts at $81,900 and is a bit cheaper than the 2024 Mercedes Benz GLS which starts at $82,950. There are quite a few noticeable differences between these two, where the GLS excels at only one aspect which is the interior dimensions, and also comes with a sleeker exterior. However, Bimmer excels at most and offers more features. Ultimately if you want to go for a fullsize luxury SUV that will provide almost all the things at a more affordable price then X7 will be a much better choice than the 2023 model of the GLS.

2024 BMW X7 vs. 2024 Lincoln Navigator

The BMW X7 and the Lincoln Navigator come under the fullsize luxury SUV segment that offers features, power, space, and the feeling of luxury. The X7 is a bit more affordable than the Navigator with a starting price of $81,900, and while the Navigator’s price starts at $84,660, other than the exterior dimensions which the Navigator dominates, most of the aspects such as performance, interior, better-offered features, and fuel efficiency the BMW SUV easily comes before it. So in short if you are looking for an all-in-one fullsize luxury SUV and overall more worth the money then the BMW X7 will be a much better choice among the two and one of the best options in the segment.

2024 BMW X7 vs. 2023 Cadillac Escalade

Both the X7 and the Escalade give an incomparable tough fight to each other in the full-size luxury SUV segment. The Bimmer comes for a starting price of $60,695 and is quite a bit cheaper than the Cadillac Escalade which comes for a starting price of $82,690, the X7 more or less is better than the Escalade in most aspects other than the interior, and the exterior dimensions and thus making it a better choice than the Cadillac. Also, the X7 offers much more features both standard and optional. So overall the X7 is the better choice in this comparison as it is more like an all-in-one vehicle offering almost everything that the Cadillac offers but better.

Final Verdict

The 2024 X7 is a stunning vehicle with an alluring exterior design and a luxurious and tech-filled interior. And as it is BMW’s largest and most pricey SUV, the brand offers almost everything that is offered in its smaller siblings along with extra features which make it one of the best and an all-in-one SUV. However, the price gap between each of its trims is quite large. But even after that, the base trim of the X7 provides quite a handful of desirable basic and tech features both as standard or optional. The SUV offers a good amount of power, and performance and is one of the most efficient in its segment. So if you’re looking for a fullsize luxury SUV then the Bimmer will be a very good choice.
