... of money trying to repair this truck and the worst part is that Nissan will deny responsibility for any of those issues. They are ignored even though thousand I mean thousands(just google the truck you will see) are reporting transmission issues due to a part that is faulty and allows coolant to mix with transmission fluid. The heater inside the truck has never really worked for me either since I bought it new. It is unfortunate that many usersRead More

... Frontier owner websites are rife with posts about the issue going back a year, so I’m not holding my breath for a fix. Both corporate and my local dealership are refusing to fix my truck that hasn’t even made it to the first oil change yet. This is the fifth and final new Nissan in my family.Read More

Had it for a week, because my 2014 RAM 1500 with 120k miles on odometer was in body shop to fix recent damage. First when I get in to this small truck my filling was it's 30 Years old. So cheap build. Steering is very heavy comparingRead More

The Nissan Frontier, in its current generation, has been out for a long time now. Given the time frame that this iteration has existed, Nissan has got enough and more time to perfect this mid-size pick-up truck to a point that the complaint numbers have fallen to just single digits. It also has only one recall for the 2019 model year and that too for a minor software glitch that it shares with its siblings. That said, no vehicle is perfect and complaints could show up when they least expected.

Though the number has been on the lower side, there are certain aspects to look out for when getting one of these trucks which have been discussed in detail in this article. The 2019 Nissan Frontier reliability rating of 80/100 is pretty good but falls behind popular trucks like the Chevrolet Colorado, the GMC Canyon, and the Toyota Tacoma. Check out the Youtube video by "MaxTheCarGuy" which lists all the common problems in this generation of the Nissan Frontier.

2019 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab User Complaints and Problems

Mechanical Complaints

  • Engine- The engine on the2019 Nissan Frontier shifts to limp-mode intermittently along with the dash displaying an engine malfunction light. The issue was traced to be with the throttle pedal position and throttle pedal position sensor voltage input correlation. Unplugging and re-plugging the connectors have been said to work for some users, but the issue does recur after a while.
  • Transmission- Not an issue that one should be concerned about, but there are reported complaints of transmission jerks and clunking noises on a vehicle equipped with the 5-speed automatic unit as per the NHTSA.

Electric System complaints

  • Infotainment- Buggy infotainment systems have been a common issue on the 2019 Nissan Frontier. The system reboots randomly and also intermittently drops phone connectivity, especially while using Bluetooth. This has been a pretty widespread issue since launch and the software update, which fixes this issue has been rolled out and is available for reflashing at registered dealers.
  • HVAC- The cabin temperature sensor under the dashboard fails prematurely. This causes the vehicle equipped with automatic climate control to blow warm air at the occupants when the controls are set to auto. This is a known issue and could be easily fixed at the dealer by replacing the aforementioned sensor. The average mileage of failure is around 25,000-miles.
  • Backup Camera- The backup camera does not turn on when the driver engages reverse. This has been a widespread issue on multiple Nissan vehicles manufactured under this model year. The automaker has initiated a recall (ID-19V654000) to update the backup camera settings on affected vehicles.

No backup camera display image.

The backup camera and display settings can be adjusted such that the rearview image is no longer visible, which reduces the driver’s view of what’s behind and increases the risk of a crash.

The dealers update the backup camera settings software, free of charge. The recall began on November 11, 2019.

Should you buy a used Nissan Frontier Crew Cab?

The Nissan Frontier has been a consistent seller for the automaker for nearly a decade, managing a yearly average of 70,000 units since the introduction of its second generation in the 2009 model year. The Nissan Frontier was never an unreliable truck purse, but its laid dated styling and lack of tech might be some reasons that have kept it from getting all the limelight as its competitors. That said, the Frontier has been in the market for a long time that the actual complaint numbers have dropped to single digits, which is the lowest in the segment and the only recall it has is due to a minor software glitch, which too is common with many other Nissan models. So if you are looking for a mid-size pickup truck that’s both mature and reliable, this old Nissan gets a thumbs up from us.
