Mitsubishi unlike other Japanese manufacturers hasn’t had the luck of capturing mammoth loads of users, making its network very short and limited compared to its rivals. The Mitsubishi Endeavor is a midsize SUV that looked promising when unveiled due to its rugged styling and sheer presence, however, the car was sold to just over 9,500 buyers and this sales number has a valid reason. The NHTSA report carries just 6 complaints with no recalls but the users have had issues with the car not starting even after multiple tries and the battery constantly draining due to the lights drawing charge when the ignition stays off. The competition further worsens the case for the Endeavor as this vehicle faces tough competition from SUVs like the Mazda CX-9, the Toyota Highlander, and the Honda Pilot.
User complaints and problems
Electrical Problems
- Fuse – The users were finding the battery to drain when the vehicle was parked. It was soon realized by the user that the brake lights stayed on even after shutting the car off and they also noticed the traction control light stay on after getting off the car. It was obvious that the lights were draining the battery and users relied on a jump started to get the engine running. The car was taken to the dealers and when assessed, they found the fuse to have blown and which had to be replaced.
- HVAC module – Users tried to turn the defroster on as the glass fogged up, limiting the outward visibility but the defroster wouldn’t work and the car had to be safely stopped on the side of the road. The users manually cleaned the glass until the vehicle reached a dealer nearby and it was found that the HVAC module needed to be replaced.
Mechanical Problems
- Starter motor – The vehicle was said to not start even after multiple tries and the users were forced to tow the car to the mechanics. The battery was initially suspected for any signs of corrosion but it seemed to be in a good condition. The mechanics then confirmed it to be a bad starter that needed to be replaced.
Safety Problems
- Airbag – A contact reports that they rear-ended another car and bounced back after hitting the steering wheel. The user then noticed the airbag deployed after the crash at a very slow pace that almost took a total of 10 seconds. This was a serious safety concern and a crash with little more pace would have made things worse. The dealers inspected the crashed vehicle and suggested it to be an inflator fault.
Miscellaneous Problems
- Floor mat – The contact stated that while exiting the car, the right leg of the pant got stuck to the floor mat support prong. This caused the user to fall on the ground and suffer a fractured left shoulder. This is the result of a poor design that many other users reported as well.

Should you buy the 2011 Mitsubishi Endeavor?
With a complaint list so small and limited, it may put out the image of the 2011 Mitsubishi outlander to be a very reliable car but that really isn’t the case and the automaker was able to sell the least amount of cars among its competition. The major letdown for this car is the fact that Mitsubishi provided barely any after-sales service to the buyers and most of the issues this car faced had no sturdy fixes. It really isn’t advisable to pick the Mitsubishi Endeavor even though the price is slightly affordable in comparison as the long terms maintenance cost for the vehicle is projected to be on the higher side because of the constant issues. We would recommend checking either of the cars from Honda, Toyota, or Mazda as they all offer great reliability and strong post-sale services.
