Overview

The 2012 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Hybrid Sedan fares well in the fullsize sedan segment. The S-Class hybrid carries a base price of MSRP $91,850 and is offered in a single trim. The engine on service here is a familiar 3.5L V6 engine supported by an electric motor. Mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission, it makes 295 horsepower and 284 lb-ft of torque. The combined fuel economy improves from 18 MPG on the standard gasoline variant to 21 MPG on the hybrid variant, making the increase in sticker price worth it. Performance of the S-Class Hybrid also improves here, with the car accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 7.7 seconds. Mercedes-Benz offers the same 11 colors for the S-Class Hybrid. The S-Class Hybrid mainly competes against the Lexus LS 600h L and the BMW ActiveHybrid 7.

Buying Advice

As the S-Class Hybrid is limited to just one trim, you have a bucket load of options and packages to choose from. Nevertheless, our favorite is the Rear seat package which incorporates four-zone automatic climate control and eight-way power rear seats with memory, heating and ventilation. Other top-notch standalone options include a panoramic sunroof, a night-vision warning system, a heated steering wheel, and a 15-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system.
